“How’s that possible?” Rowan shouted when he saw me, his voice shaky. “You can’t even ride a motorcycle–how could you win the championship? You must be a stand–in! Yes, that’s it! You got someone to compete on your behalf to get revenge on me, right?”
That thought seemed to bring him some relief.
I held my head high and looked at him scornfully. Then, I flipped him the bird. “You’re still such a sore loser, Rowan. Since you think I cheated, feel free to ask for a review of the surveillance cameras. I scanned my face and verified my identity before entering the racetrack.”
There were so many surveillance cameras around that there was no chance of me having cheated. Honestly, it all boiled down to the fact that Rowan had been dumb enough to think that my primary personality would never return. In fact, I had to thank him for the way things had turned out.
He stared at me in astonishment. My middle finger reminded him of the race two years ago. Back then, I’d also stood on this stage and flipped him the bird.
Rumor had it that as long as I was around, he would only ever come in second. At the time, I was one of Jolline City’s most famous people. However, whenever my secondary personality emerged, the tables would turn.
I was a proud woman, but my secondary personality was innocent, harmless, and cautious. She liked cooking, flowers, and painting. Motorcycles and racing meant nothing to her. She also didn’t like Gideon, who was her actual boyfriend. Instead, she pined after Rowan, who was handsome and roguish.
Rowan had to admit he was moved as he watched me–or the other Geraldine–humbly seek his favor when I’d always been arrogant and unattainable. The only issue was that we kept alternating personalities.
Later, Gideon officially broke up with us. The day after learning about this, Rowan orchestrated an accident. From then on, my primary personality disappeared.
On one hand, he enjoyed having “Geraldine” treat him well. On the other hand, he hated how she was always at his beck and call.
Rowan stiffened, and his heart sank. He forced out, “You’re her–the real Geraldine. Where is she, then? Where has she gone?”
He felt like a hand was clenching around his heart when he spoke.
I looked at him and slowly laughed. Then, I said indifferently, “She’s dead. She died in the bushes that night.”
I didn’t pay attention to how he looked after I said that. A journalist said, “You’ve disappeared from the racetrack for two years. Who do you want to thank most now that you’re back?”
I took the microphone from her and said, “That would be my boyfriend. I want to thank him for always supporting me and silently backing me up.”
1e journalist looked excited. She held out another microphone before Rowan and asked, “Do you have anything to say in response to Ms. Rivers‘ confession, Mr. Moore?” Rowan’s face lit up with joy when he thought he’d regained what he’d lost. He looked at me, his eyes filled with love as he started, “I want to say-”
I cut him off with a raise of my hand. He and the journalist turned to me. She asked, “What’s wrong, Ms. Rivers?”
I pointed at someone seated in the first row of the stands and grinned. “You’ve got the wrong guy. My boyfriend is over there! He’s Gideon Stone!”
Gideon stood up, looking captivating even when dressed casually. The cameras focused on him, and the journalist was so taken by his good looks that she forgot to breathe. After a while, she asked me shakily, “Are you saying that your boyfriend is Mr. Gideon Stone, the CEO of Stone Corporation? The man who broke up with you two years ago?” I nodded. “Yes.”
The microphone fell from Kowan’s hand and rolled to my feet. Meanwhile, Gideon approached me and picked it up. At the same time, he wrapped an arm around my waist.
“I had no choice but to leave Geraldine two years ago due to certain circumstances. Now that I’m back, I’m not letting anyone take her away from me!” He gave Rowan a warning look.
The race was over, and things started wrapping up. I watched as Riley ran to Rowan. I don’t know what they said, but she started weeping, looking both aggrieved and angered. This annoyed Rowan. He shoved her aside and shouted something at her.
The scene bored me, so I pulled Gideon away. He’d already reserved a restaurant to celebrate my victory.
