Chapter 60
Julle stared silently at Amaya without saving a word.
Amaya let out a heavy sigh. “Christian’s proven to be a jerk.”
“What happened? Did he cheat on you?
“After the car accident, I told him I covered Blaine’s compensation through a payday loan, and 1 guess he’s worried about being implicated.”
“And you’re not even breaking up with him yet?”
“I was just waiting for the right chance”
Julie paused and asked, “So, is the chance here?”
Amayanodded. “I think it’s almost here.”
Just as she spoke, Amaya’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen and noticed an unread notification. After tapping on it, a text popped up, and it was a breakup message from Christian
Though frowning slightly, a subtle smile played on Amaya’s lips as she softly said, “It’s here.”
She handed the phone to Julie and remarked with a smile, “Look at this. What a jerk to claim he doesn’t have feelings f
for me anymore”
Julie took the phone and scanned the text. Her expression twisted with a trace of disgust as she commented, “I didn t have a good impression of him that day.”
Amaya turned to her curiously and asked, “What happened?”
Julie then recounted everything that had happened that day in detail.
When Amaya heard the full story, she immediately flew into a rage and angrily shouted, “What the hell it’s fine if he tried fishing for attention, but now he’s fishing for my best friend?
Seeing Amaya so furious, Julie quickly tried to calm him down. “There, there. Aren’t you gonna break up with him already? Why get so mad about it now?”
Amaya huffed. “I spent the past few months pampering him with luxury goods, and now he’s dumped me because he thinks I’m broke
“How ridiculous! My daily expenses are enough to cover his expenses for a lifetime, and the thinks I’m poor,”
Amaya grew more agitated as she spoke, and Julie was about to calm her down when her phone began ringing.
She glanced at the screen and saw that it was a call from Lucian
Standing up, she walked to the balcony and answered the call. “Hello?
Lucian’s lazy voice came from the other end of the line. “Where’s my meal, Juju? There was a hint of teasing and anticipation in his tone.
Julie was momentarily confused. “What meal?”
Lucian chuckled and reminded her. “Who was it saying she’d treat me to a meal? I happen to have time today. Let’s go.”
Julie glanced toward Amaya sitting on the couch and lowered her voice to reply, “Today’s not a good day.”
Lucian was taken aback and clearly disappointed at her response. His tone turned slightly displeased. “Why not?”
Jolie explained, “Because I have a friend over at my place, and I can’t leave the house. Shall we have it some other day?”
Hearing this, Lucian narrowed his eyes slightly. His voice carried a hint of displeasure and suspicion. “A friend Your ex–boyfriend?”
She sensed the dissatisfaction and doubt in his tone and hurriedly clarified. “Of course not. It’s a female friend ”
Lucian snorted dismissively and seemed still dissatisfied. “What’s she doing skipping dinner at home and going to your place?”
Julie had to answer honestly. “She wants to start a business and is trying to rope me into it.”
Lucian’s interest seemed piqued to hear that. He raised his eyebrows and asked, “Oh? What are you planning to do? Tell me about it, and I’ll invest for you.”
Julie sighed. “We haven’t decided yet, but we’re planning to choose a project based on our field of expertise.”
Lucian nodded thoughtfully and asked, “A strategic planning business?”
Julie was surprised. “How did you garss?!
Lucian’s lips curled in a faint smile. “Didn’t you just say so?”
Julie blinked and was visibly confused. “That’s not it. How do you know that’s my major?” Lucian chuckled softly. “That’s not important. What’s important is whether I’m right.”
Julie shrugged. “Close enough, but we’ll have to conduct proper market research.” As she finished speaking, she noticed Amaya getting up and walking toward the door.
