Chapter 9
After leaving the café, I quickly returned to the car. Erik noticed my expression and looked at me with concern. “Cora, what’s wrong?”
“It was David.” I only spoke after getting in and fastening my seatbelt.
“David?” Erik frowned. “Didn’t you say it was Mrs. Johnson? How did it end up being David?”
“He used Mrs. Johnson to trick me into coming here.” I looked at Erik. “I don’t want to talk about him anymore. Let’s go.”
“Alright.” Seeing my expression, Erik didn’t further.

On the way back, he suggested tentatively, “How about we move up our honeymoon?”
“Sounds good.”
Lagreed, and the next day, we set off on our honeymoon.
As we were leaving, David tried calling me, so I blocked him. Soon after, he called again from an unknown number. When I answered, I heard his drunken voice through the phone. “Cora, all these years, I didn’t understand my own feelings. I love you…”
“But why… why did you marry someone else?”
A confession I once longed to hear now felt nauseating. His voice filled me with disgust. I yelled into the phone, “David, can you please stop harassing me?”
Before he could respond, I hung up.
Erik walked over, gently patting my head. “Cora, let’s go. Don’t let him spoil our trip.”
I nodded firmly at Erik. He might not be the most romantic, but he gave me a sense of security–a feeling of peace and reassurance I could rely on.
To avoid further harassment from David, I blocked his number and deleted all contacts related to him. However, on the first night of our honeymoon, while Erik and I were going through our photos from the day, I spotted a familiar figure in the corner of one of our

pictures together.
I zoomed in, and after a closer look, I was certain–it was David. I could hardly believe it. Even on our honeymoon, he had somehow appeared!
“Maybe… it’s just a coincidence?” Erik tried to reassure me, watching my reaction.
“Maybe. I don’t know.” I remained silent for a while, unsure of what to say.
Erik held me close, comforting me. “Don’t worry. Even if he shows up, I’ll protect you! Tomorrow, we’ll go somewhere else, and we won’t run into him again.”
I nodded, resting in Erik’s embrace. Only in his arms did I feel truly warm and safe.
