“Why is it you? Where’s your mother?” I stared at David.
David, unusually calm, gestured for me to sit down and talk. I refused. “If you have something to say, say it now.”
“We grew up together, sharing the same roof, the same meals,” David said, looking at me. “Are you really this heartless?”
His calmness felt unsettling. “Just say what you want.”
David’s gaze lingered on me before he asked, “Fine, then. Tell me how you and Erik got together without me knowing!”
“No comment.” I knew he hadn’t invited me here with good intentions.
I turned to leave immediately, but David spoke again. “You must have thrown yourself at him, seduced him, right? You were jealous of how well I treated Helena, so you used this as a way to get back at me. Isn’t that right? Always scheming.”
His accusations were laughable. He was still so self–centered, convinced that everything I did revolved around him. Ridiculous.
I stopped, turned back, and said, “David, you’re both laughable and pathetic.”
Unfazed, David stood up and walked over to me, looking down as he spoke. “No matter what you say or think, this time you won, alright?” His voice softened. “I’m begging you–enough with this revenge. Leave him and come back to me, okay?”
“Are you admitting you were wrong?” I asked, staring at him.
David frowned, staying silent for a long moment before finally saying, “Yes. Is that enough for you?”
“Come back with me. I don’t care if you’ve been married before.”
He grabbed my hand.

Chapter 8
In the past, hearing him admit his faults would have made me happy, fulfilled. But now, I only felt disgusted. I pulled my hand away. “You’re pathetic and arrogant. You only came to find me after being dumped. Don’t you think it’s too late?”
David’s patience seemed to snap as he yelled, “I’ve already swallowed my pride and admitted my fault–what more do you want from me?”
“All I want is for you to stay as far away from me as possible!”
With a cold glance at him, I brushed past him and left. He stood there, stunned, watching me walk out of the café.
This wasn’t an apology; it was his possessiveness speaking. His faithful “lapdog” had finally left his world for good–no more waiting, no more care, no reconciliation. It was as if one day, a loyal pet stopped wagging its tail at him, and he couldn’t resist holding out a bone to test its reaction.
To David, I was that obedient dog.
