Chapter 72
Christopher pinched the bridge of his nose as he walked into Asher’s study. “Did you pour all the alcohol in the world on your body and marinate in them? Why does it reck so much?”
Asher spun around in his chair, and faced Christopher with a bored look on his face. It was true that he had been drinking, he had been drinking a lot, especially after what happened with Lily.
He desperately wanted to reach out and hold her, to smile at her, to make excuses and exempt her from it all, but at the end of the day, the Morgan. blood ran in her veins, and he wasn’t letting a single one of them out of hook, even if it was going to cost him his soul.
“For someone whose wedding is in a few hours, you look miserable as hell.”
He rolled his eyes and stood up. “Did you submit the papers?” Christopher sighed, and made himself comfortable, nodding.
“I did.” Asher smiled and nodded.
For weeks now, his plans to bring Nicolas Morgan had been brewing and being set into motion, and it was formulated in such a way that today won’t just be a wedding day.
“You know what? I’m out of here, it reeks of too much alcohol and I cannot stand it anymore. Call me or text me whenever you’re ready.” He immediately ran out the second he was done speaking.
Asher exhaled loudly when the door shut behind Christopher, and he sniffed the air and almost gagged. He had been wasting in here since he found out the truth, drinking and mourning, refusing to let anyone in, and he had gotten accustomed to the smell that he couldn’t pinpoint when it got this bad.
He picked up his phone and checked the time, 9:40. His wedding starts in 20 minutes, but first he has to take a needed nap, and have Marie get someone to clean up the study.
His phone slid out of his hands and cracked the second he walked out the phone and bumped into Christopher who was just about to knock. “The fuck is wrong with you? I thought you were leaving!”
“Curse at me again, and I’ll break your nose” Christopher snapped, and Asher glared hard at him. “I was on my way to drag you out of there and get you to freshen up so we can leave.”
Asher frowned and shook his head. “The plan was to go late, Christopher. It’s still to early to go.”
“It’s 9:43, Asher. Your wedding started 43 minutes ago, my phone has been blowing up.” He bent down and picked up Asher’s and turned it on, “and from the looks of it, so has yours.”
He snatched his phone and looked at, and truly, notifications of missed calls and text messages lined up in his phone. How did he miss that. “The show is going to start soon, Asher. Go and get dressed.” He nodded and dashed off to his room. How could he have forgotten the actual time?
In less than 30 minutes, he had managed to bring himself back to life. Anyone who saw him wouldn’t believe that 30 minutes ago he looked like death. As soon as he got back downstairs, he threw the car keys at Christopher and they left.
“Asher!” Charlotte yelled, and ran up to him the second they arrived at the venue, with her father closely behind her. Only when she came close enough did Asher see how badly her makeup had smudge from all the tears. “What’s the meaning of this? What kept you so long? I…” She took a shaky breath, tears pooling in her eyes again, “I thought you weren’t coming anymore. I was so scared?”
“Is that so?” He smirked and flicked the tears away, “I felt the same way 5 years ago, just that in my case… You never came.”
Charlotte opened and closed her mouth repeatedly, unsure of what to say.
“Let’s let the past be in the past, Asher,” Nicolas said, and placed a hand on his shoulders, and Asher instantly recoiled knocking it off, and Nicolas frowned. “Is everything…?”
“You know what?” Charlotte cut in, “Let’s forget about all that. Let’s go, we’ve kept the guests waiting too long.”
“Not so fast,” a strange voice piped in, and they all turned to see a group of cops right behind them. “Nicolas Morgan?”
Nicolas instantly stepped forward, his brows knitted together. “Anything I can help you out with, officer? Can it wait? My daughter is about to take her vows.”
The officer immediately brought out his ID and showed it to him, ” I am officer Brandy,” he tucked his ID and brought out handcuffs,” Mr Nicolas you are under arrest on the charges of illegal business transactions and smuggling, as well as the murder of Mr and Mrs Allard. You have the right to remain silent, everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.”
Nicolas‘ eyes widened and he immediately took a step back.” I’m sorry officer, but you must be mistaken. I did no such thing!”

Chapter 72
Charlotte immediately ran to the cops and tried to stop them from putting him in handcuffs. “What are you doing? Let him go! He did no such thing! Asher are you just watching?” Asher shrugged, and took a step back, while one of the officers held Charlotte down.
“Asher? I did no such thing. I had no hands in your parents death! What’s the meaning of this!?” He yelled, trying to wiggle himself out of their hold, but the cops held him down and pushed him into the car, while he kept shouting.
Charlotte managed to wiggle out of the hold of the cop holding her down and ran over to Asher. “Listen, let’s quickly take our vows and head over to the Police station. I’m sure this is all a misunderstanding!” She held onto Asher’s hand, and tried to drag him to the altar, but he refused to budge. “What are you doing?! Let’s go!”
“Mr Allard,” Officer Brandy walked up to him and they both exchanged handshakes, “I guess I’ll see you soon.”
“Of course.” They shook hands again, and he left. Soon after, the cops drove off, leaving behind a group of confused guests, who all had their phones whipped out, a satisfied Asher, and an exasperated Charlotte.
“Do you have something to do with this?” She asked, when she could finally speak again, and Asher cocked a brow.
“What do you think?”
She let out a humorless laugh, and staggered backwards. “What’s the meaning of this?” She asked, eyes wide. “What is this supposed to mean!?” She yelled, stomping her feet.
“Isn’t it clear? The wedding has been canceled, Charlotte.”
She shook her head and laughed, grabbing her stomach. “You can’t do that. You can’t cancel this wedding, I am pregnant with your child, you
can’t…”
He immediately threw a bunch of pictures in her face, shutting her up. Charlotte’s eyes widened in terror when she caught one of the pictures, and it was an image of her and Brandon, the actual father of her child, kissing. “Asher, this is a mistake” she squeezed the picture and threw it on the floor. “I can… I can explain.” She tried to reach out to him but he immediately took a step away from her reach.
“It’d be best for you to stay away from me, and make plans on how to raise that baby and keep Brandon from strangling you to death for not keeping up to your end of the bargain.” Charlotte’s heart dropped to her stomach and clenched painfully. How did he find out? “Taking me for a fool was your biggest mistake, and that of your wretched father’s as well. Have a miserable day.”
He turned and walked away, while Charlotte stood staring at his retreating figure. Only when he got into the car and zoomed off did she seem to snap out of her trance and run after him, yelling.
