Chapter 71

“Let me get this straight, Angelica paused, and snapped her powder shut, dropping her brush on the floor. “The dad you’ve known all your life isn’t your real dad, Lincoln Larkin is your real dad instead, and that means Christopher, my ex, is your cousin?!” Lily nodded, “Your mum divorced Nicholas Morgan and is set to marry your biological dad, and your sister is pregnant for your ex–husband?” Lily nodded once again. “Wow… A freaking blockbuster movie could be made out of your life, Lily Morgan… Sorry, Lily Larkin!”
Lily threw her head back and laughed. She had spent the day debriefing Angelica, and only now that they were seated, applying their makeup for the launch party did Angelica seem to finally grasp what she has been saying.
That is crazy. I finally understand why it took you so long to tell me.”
“It took me quite some time to actually comprehend it. Everything keeps happening so fast in my life, I’m scared of what will happen next.”
Angelica shot her a sad smile, then quickly engulfed her in a hug. “Change is good, Lily. Discovering who your actual father is must have made you realize that you are not an unlovable daughter, Nicolas just couldn’t handle the truth. Finding out your sister is pregnant just showed you that men are shitty assholes, and Asher doesn’t deserve your stress, and your mum’s remarriage? You always have another shot at love. So don’t be discouraged or scared, okay? Everything happens for a reason, a good reason.”
“Don’t make me cry, I just finished my makeup!” They both chuckled and hugged each other tighter. “I am so lucky to have you in my life, Angelica. Thank you for inviting me out for that drink.”
Thank you for accepting my invite.”
They flicked away each other’s tears, and chuckled. Come on, let’s get dressed. The party starts in 30 minutes.”
They both quickly put on their dresses, which was an exact copy of the others, just in different colors. Lily went for red, while Angelica chose Black. They helped each other do their hair, and less than 20 minutes later, they were driving down to the mansion.
Having attended Gloria’s party before, Lily knew better than to expect less than a huge crowd, and she was right.
The entire house was overflowing with people, and if Angelica wasn’t holding onto her so tightly, they both would have been separated the second they walked in.
“I thought this was going to be a small party?”
“You thought wrong,” Gloria said, walking into the frame, and the two girls smiled. “I never call small parties.” She pulled both of them into a hug,
and kissed both their cheeks.
“You both look so good.”
“You too, Gloria”
“Come now, let’s go in. I have to show you both off to my guests. They are marvelled at the design, most of them are green with envy and can’t wait to snatch you from me.” They laughed, and with their arms intertwined, they walked off.
“By the way, I see you didn’t come with Asher. You chose your girl over him?” She wiggled her brows, while Angelica and Lily exchanged panicked looks.
“You invited Asher?” Lily managed to ask, and Gloria nodded, still smiling.
“Of course I did. He’s your husband, and he has to come and witness your first big design. Why? You didn’t want him to?”
Lily chuckled, scratching the back of her neck. “That’s not the case. The thing is…”
“He’s no longer her husband,” a strange voice piped in, and they all turned to see who it was, and Charlotte stood before them, arm intertwined with that of Asher’s, and a smile plastered on her face.
Despite Lily’s efforts, her eyes found Asher’s and her heart instantly dropped to her stomach. When she bumped into him at his company a few weeks back, his eyes still shone with warmth and love, but now, they were cold and unfeeling. She suddenly felt a chill, and she immediately looked away, rubbing her arm with her free hand, as she tried to swallow her tears
Despite knowing all she knows now, she still hoped and longed that he still loved her the same, and that he would walk up to her at the end of it all, and say it was some sort of prank. What a silly joke.
Gloria frowned and looked between the both of them for a few seconds before she nodded. “I see. Michael would be so disappointed. The both of you can get the hell out of my house then, I don’t host cheats.”
Charlotte’s mouth dropped open, and she scoffed. * Listen, ma’am, I…”
“I’ll be with you ladies in a bit,” she interrupted, smiling at Lily and Angelica, who returned her smile and she walked out.

Chapter 71
“You pitted her against me, didn’t you?” Charlotte screeched once Gloria was out of car shots.
“Yes, yes we did. Deal with it” Angelica said before Lily could talk, “let’s go.” She held Lily’s hand and dragged her away.
They barely took 3 steps away when they heard Gloria turning on the Mic, and they instantly halted. “Good day, or rather, Good night ladies and gentlemen‘ everyone laughed, and a proud smile graced her face. “Thank you all for coming out here to celebrate my beautiful home with me, it’s been a pleasure. 1, however, want to thank a special person tonight, the one who made all this possible, please welcome on stage, Lily.”
Claps erupted from all around, and a big smile coated Lily’s face and she turned to Angelica, who was smiling and clapping the loudest. “Come with me, we both made this possible.
“Lily.. no, this is your time.”
“Our time, Angelica,” she corrected, and grabbed her hand. “Let’s go.”
They both walked together onto the stage, and Gloria passed Lily the mic.
“Thank you, thank you all so much.” The claps slowly died down, and everyone paid undivided attention to her. “I’m so grateful to have you all here tonight, and even more grateful for the admiration shining in your eyes as you tour around this house. Designing a house was a sort of comfort in my life at one of the lowest points of it, and I never for once thought I’d handle a project this big, but I’m glad I received this opportunity. I hope to keep designing and bringing life to buildings, be it a home, an office or even a playdate. I want people to walk in, and feel comforted, and understood because of my designs… it’s been a pleasure having you all here tonight, admiring my work. I also want to say a big thank you to a colleague turned friend, who helped tremendously in this journey of bringing this design to life, Angelica Skylar.”
Claps once again erupted from the crowd. She hugged Angelica, who was tearing up, and passed the mic to her before she got off the stage.
Once she got off, she went straight to the bathroom to make sure her makeup didn’t smudge. Charlotte followed her immediately, and locked the bathroom door behind her,
Lily sighed when she saw her reflection in the mirror, and she turned to face her. “Do you have a thing for bathrooms?”
“Have you heard about mum and Dad’s divorce?” Lily sighed and nodded.
“Mum told me.”
Charlotte frowned, and crossed her arms over her chest. “For someone that was behind it, you don’t look so remorseful.”
“I… I was behind it?”
“You didn’t know? Dad said they got a divorce because you are a bastard. Mum got knocked up with you after getting married to dad.”
Lily bit the insides of her cheeks and scoffed. Charlotte was clearly baiting her and she wasn’t in the mood. “Good, I feel good about it, glad even, now excuse me.” She shoved her out of the way and walked out, only to bump into a man’s chest, and that sent her falling.
She stretched her hand out, hoping to be helped but none came, and she ended up falling on her butt. “Ow ow ow… “She cried, and looked up angrily to see the culprit, but her anger soon turned to sadness when she saw Asher staring down at her with those same cold and unfeeling eyes.
“I…”
“Where’s my wife?” He asked before Lily could get a word in, and her mouth fell open in shock. Did he just..?
“Arc..”
“I’m here, love,” Charlotte interrupted, walking out of the bathroom. “Are you ready to go?” Asher nodded, and she jumped over 13y making sure to kick her a little in the process. She intertwined their arms and batted her eyes cutely at him, a big smile on her face. “Let’s go.”
Lily sat on the floor, watching them, bewildered as they both walked away, hand in hand, and her heart cracked into a million pieces when they both walked out of sight, and not once did Asher look back at her.
