Chapter 63
“I can’t believe we are almost done with this” Lily said, smiling, while she and Angelica walked around the Darby mansion, taking in the sight of the almost finished house. All the rooms except 3 had been finished and Lily was absolutely in love with the designs. “Our design really came to life!”
Angelica chuckled and gave her the ‘Oh please ‘look, “it’s not our design, Lily. This was all you, I only helped, and it wasn’t even with the designs.”
“There’s no need to be so humble, all this is as a result of team work. We did it together.”
Angelica wanted to defend her stance once more, but decided against it last minute. There was no reason to reject Lily’s obvious act and words of kindness.
They kept touring round the house, and each room they stepped into, Lily made sure to take a very good picture of it to build her portfolio and also to update Mrs Darby on the progress of the house.
“I’ve been thinking of that to do with the compound,” Lily crossed her arms over her chest and looked out at the large expanse of land displayed before them, which only has a garage on it. “I was thinking maybe a little garden by the sides, a huge fountain in the middle and the garage can be pushed back a little. It will fit with the theme of the house, what do you think?”
Angelica paused her scribbling on the pad and nodded. “I see the vision and I approve of it.”
A satisfied smile lit up Lily’s features and she released a deep breath. She has been working on a couple of things since last week, her move to Paris, the Allard Project, which luckily for her, according to the mail she received from them would be done in Paris, but the top most on her list was the completion of this project, while ensuring she remained stress–free for her baby.
Her hand rubbed her stomach gently and she sighed in contentment, everything was satisfyingly coming together for her, it didn’t completely take away her pain, but it made her happier than she has been in a while.
“You’ll be heading home after this, right?”
Lily narrowed her eyes at her question, and nodded. “Aren’t you coming with me?”
Red coated Angelica’s cheeks and she instantly found her feet interesting, “I,have an appointment later today”
Lily giggled and wiggled her brows, “An appointment you say, I see. Have fun with your appointment,” she laid extra emphasis on the ‘appointment‘, and Angelica’s cheeks reddened even more. “I’m heading back now, have fun.”
She stood for a few seconds and made sure she sent the pictures she took to Mrs Darby’s email, before she hopped into her car and drove off.
A relieved smile crossed her face once she pulled into the garage, but just as she was about to alight from the car and walk inside, her ringtone flared up. Thinking it was Mrs Darby, she picked up.
“Hello, Lily speaking.”
“Lily”
The world slowly came to a halt at the sound of the familiar voice. She brought her phone out for her ears and stared at her screen, and it wasn’t a saved contact.
“Mum?” Lily asked when she finally placed the phone back in her ears, and silence followed. “Mum, is that you?”
“Yes”
“Why are you calling from another line? Are you okay? Is everything alright? Did he… Did he do something?”
Mrs Morgan immediately shook her head, forgetting she couldn’t see her. “Listen, can you come to Elevé? I’ll explain everything to you when you get here.”
“Mum, can you at least tell me if you’re okay?”
“I am. Now please, hurry. I don’t have a lot of time to wait back here.”
“Okay, I’m on my way.” Without wasting much time, Lily started the car and hastily drove out.
She drove for what felt like eternity, following the instructions of geegle maps, before she finally heaved a breath of relief as she pulled into the Restaurant’s parking lot, and got down. Just as she was about to call her mum, Mrs Morgan walked up to her.
“Mum,” Lily whispered in relief, “thank God you’re safe.”
She smiled at her. “Let’s go in, someone important is waiting for us.” Lily, readily agreed and was about to walk away with her, when a thought suddenly crossed her mind and she paused.

“Who is the important guest, mum?”

Mrs Morgan turned, and her forehead creased at the suspicion in Lily’s face. “I can’t tell you who it is out here, it’s an important guest and it involves a very hearty discussion. Let’s talk inside.
She scoffed and took a step back. “Do you think me a fool?” Mrs Morgan frowned and looked around to make sure Lily was speaking to her. “I can bet that the important person is your husband, and the important discussion is about your daughter’s wedding. There is no other reason you’d call me out here. Lily let out a humourless laugh, and palmed her face. “To think I came rushing here” she glared hard and long at her mum before she turned on her heels and began marching to her car, “have fun with your family.”
“The important person isn’t my husband, Lily,” Mrs Morgan said, but Lily ignored her, and walked even faster to her car, but he’s your father.”
