Chapter 44
Lily sent a detailed text to Angelica and asked her to hire more workers to get started on other parts of the house. The initial plan had been to take it a room at a time to ensure the best designs for each room and that would take them at least 4 months to finish up every single room in the house, but a lot has changed within the period they drafted the plan and now, and she couldn’t afford to have the project go on longer than 2 months now. It would mean more cost, but the budget would cover it either way.
Fortunately for her, Angelica didn’t ask any questions on why she suddenly changed her mind and just agreed to it, sparing her the agony of explaining without sounding like someone who can’t keep their personal life out of their professional life,
“You shouldn’t be working while on a break, you know?” Asher asked as he walked into the room. Lily dropped her phone and shot him a patronizing smile.
“You know, I thought you were going to be the workaholic. You always have your nose shoved in your business every single time.”
He got into bed and snuggled close as he shook his head. “It gets tiring after doing it for so many years. I appreciate the breaks I get now and then. and I make sure to enjoy them because once I’m thrown back to work, there’s always a lot to do.”

“Not at all.” Lily’s brows shot up and he laughed. “I genuinely enjoy the work I do. It wasn’t exactly imposed on me, I had the opportunity to bail out, but I always wanted to be my mini dad. It’s working out pretty well.”
“Okay, Junior”
His nose scrunched up at the name and he wagged his finger, never again. Lilly snorted and adjusted on the bed, making herself more comfortable as she stared at the ceiling.
Everything has been going a line too well for her, but deep down she knew it was the calm before the storm, and she earnestly wanted to enjoy every bit of it, but the alarms going off in her head weren’t making it easy. The knowledge that she would serve him divorce papers in a few days made it practically impossible for her to truly enjoy it.
“When you presented that deal to me in Paris…” Asher started, breaking the silence, and Lily diverted her gaze to him… “Would you have believed it if anyone told you that this would be happening?”
Lily immediately shook her head and a small smile tugged on Asher’s lips. I would have said, not in a million years. He chuckled and bobbed his head gently in agreement.
“Well, I’m glad it is really…
“But then again, we are just having fun. Lily said, purposely cutting him off from whatever he wanted to say earlier, and Asher’s brows curved upwards.
“Just having fun?” He asked, narrowing his eyes and she gulped, nodding.
“I mean, yeah… We are on a boat, cruising, we had amazing sex. Everything is serene. That’s what people do to have fun these days.”
Asher clenched his jaw, and a muscle visibly ticked at her words. “And that’s all this is to you? Fun?” She clamped her lips together and nodded. swallowing painfully as her throat burned from the unshed tears that she was suppressing Isee…” He stood up from the bed without ahother word and walked away when he suddenly paused by the door. “It’s not just fun, Lily, and you know it. I don’t go about sharing stories about iny life for the fun of it Her lips dropped open and she racked her head for something to say in response, but nothing came to mind, so she just stared blankly at him. I’m going to get some fresh air. He slammed the door behind him and walked away.
Once his footsteps faded from Lily’s hearing, the tears she had been trying to keep in finally burst out of her. She knew it wasn’t just fun, even a blind man could tell that it wasn’t just fun, but if she was going to walk out, if she was going to pull through with what her father asked her to do, then it has to be termed, just fun. That was the only way to make it easy to walk away.
The rest of the day passed by without any of them saying a word to each other, except when Asher stopped by to let her know they were leaving soon. Luckily, she didn’t come with much so she didn’t have to run around packing last minute.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly what I planned it to be, but at least you had fun, right?” Asher asked, placing particular emphasis on fun as they both walked to the door, and Lily bit the insides of her cheeks, before she forced a smile on her face and nodded.
“Yes, it was quite fun. I enjoyed myself” His lips twitched and a muscle ticked in his jaw at her response and Lily gulped, chuckling nervously as she quickly ran into the car.
The ride home was uncomfortable and the graveyard type of quirt, it almost made her take back her words. To tell him she was just pulling his legs, and have them both joke around the way they were a few hours ago, but it was a little too late for that.
Relief coursed through her veins when he finally drove into their house. The second he parked, she practically jumped down from the car. while she was waiting for him to alight, he drove off without a warning, leaving her moping at the car with her lips parted in shock.
She scoffed and did a double take to be sure that he actually drove away before she stormed into the house
