Chapter 33
“What are you doing here, Charlotte? Aren’t you supposed to be in the hospital?” Charlotte smirked before she walked in and took a seat beside Christopher, who now wore a guilty look on his face. Asher arched a brow, his eyes darting between the both of them as he tried to figure out what was going on. “Oh…” He whispered, clenching his jaw. “Why did you invite her “Twig?”
Christopher cleared his throat and raised his hands in surrender, “I didn’t know things had changed between you two in my defere. I only heard she was back and thought maybe you’d like to see her or something”
“Well, too bad.” Asher said, standing to his feet. Thave to retire for the night. I’ve got a wife waiting for me at home, and I’ve got a busy day tomorrow. “As he tried to walk away, Charlotte immediately reached out and held his hand.
*You don’t have to put up this act. Ash. There’s no one but us here, and aren’t you grateful that despite my condition, I still came around to see you!
He immediately snatched his hand away from her grip and put some distance between them. “Why should I be happy to see someone that has consistently disregarded my boundaries?”
Charlotte held onto the chair and pushed her self up, grunting as she did, but Asher never extended a hand to help her. Her eyes turned glossy at the realization, and she tucked her bottom lip in as she tried to keep the tears at bay. “What did I do to you Asher? I’ve apologized for leaving! I’ve begged, what more do you want from me? I’m sorry and I love you! Just please forgive me. Lily isn’t worth all of this, can’t you see? She’s a bitch! She’s only using you.‘”
A humourless laugh escaped Asher’s lips and he took a menacing step towards her. “She’s using me?” He asked, his voice low. “Using me for what, Charlotte! For what exactly? Money? Farme! What? She whimpered, her eyes wide with fear as she shuffled backwards trying to create some space between them.” And what exactly is your apology supposed to do? Make me forget the embarrassment and pain you put me through!” He pinched the spot between his brows and exhaled loudly” When you first came back, I thought I could put it all behind me, but nah, once vile, always Vile. Do not show your face before me ever again, and do not take my wife’s name. You’re not worth a quarter of who she is. “Sparing her and Christopher one more glance, he stormed out of the place.
Charlotte stood frozen, eyes wide, staring at the spot Asher stood on a while ago. Did he just say, I’m not worth a quarter of Lily?” She asked. rhetorically, her mind fighting to process his words. “I must have heard wrong, right?” Her eyes found Christopher’s and he raised his hands. She let out a laugh, then another, and another before it turned into a full–blown cackle, and soon enough it turned into a scream as she pulled her hair “What the fuck am I doing wrong?! I’ve begged! I’ve pleaded: I’ve done every fucking thing I can think of, why can’t he see that I am sorry! Why won’t he just take me back!? She yelled and smashed the glass of whiskey against the wall
“Listen, you’ve got to chill. L
“It’s because of Lily.” She said, her voice dropping a few octaves. “It’s all because of that bitch” A malicious grin covered her face and she turned to bold Christopher’s gaze. “She’s the problem
“Charlotte…” He called out in a warning tone, and she let out a small laugh
“One thing about me is that I’m good at fixing my problems. If Lily is a problem, I’ll fix it. She smiled, taking a deep breath. “I’ll see you later, Christopher. Good night. She dusted off imaginary dust from her clothes before she strolled out of the room, completely abandoning the crutches she walked in with, and Christopher stared at her retreating figure in disbelief.
Asher walked back to a cold house. His stomach rumbled aggressively as he walked in, reminding him that he was yet to have dinner, but one look at the kitchen with its light off dispelled whatever thoughts of food that he had. He walked upstairs, and the first room that caught his attention was Lily’s. He really never went there. Was she asleep
He took cautious steps towards her door, and without thinking of his actions, angled his ear towards the door, half hoping that she was still awake, Their day had ended rather anti climatically. Disappointment however washed over him when he realized the room was dead pin silent. She was undoubtedly asleep
Releasing a deep breath, he walked away to his room in d
in disappointment.
Without putting on the light, he shredded off every piece of clothing he had and quickly jumped into bed. His brows knitted together when he lied down, and he slowly turned to his side, trying to figure out the source of the warmth and soft breaths beside him,
A warm smile immediately lit up his face when his eyes adjusted to the darkness and Lily’s face came into view. She looked like a puppy. He breathed out a laugh when she woke up momentarily, scratching her scrunched up nose, before falling right back to sleep again..
He adjusted the duvet over them, and inched a bit closer to her. “I thought you’d choose to give me space instead. His eyes immediately widened, Iooking into Lily’s mischievous oneL
You are awake?
Are y
you asking or are you stating?”
He laughed and created some distance between them. “Go to bed, Lily”

Chapter 33
Won’t you ask me why I’m here instead of my room?”
He shrugged. I don’t really care.”
She narrowed her eyes she stared at him sceptically for a while before she sighed, turning her back to him. “I’m glad you came back at least.” She said, and Asher frowned, trying to figure out what she meant
“I wouldn’t spend the night elsewhere,” he said when he realized what she meant, and the corners of Lily’s lips tugged up.
No matter how the 45 days ends. She’ll be glad she got to live like this after all.
