Chapter 10
“Lily, you’re here.” Miss Morgan said, pulling her into a quick hug while her eyes darted around behind her looking for her son–in–law A resigned sigh left her lips as she pulled away from the hug when she caught no sight of him, “I guess he’s busy with work once again.” She said before Lily could give her daily excuse, and Lily gave her a tight–lipped smile in affirmation.
“I think he’s going to be here soon, Mummy” Charlotte said with smug smile as she walked into the kitchen, “I sent him a personal invitation, and you know, mum, he still has the shots for me.” She pulled her mum into a side hug, shooting Lily a wink as she did.
A surprised look washed over Miss Morgan’s face and her eyes darted between her two daughters, “after all these years…. That he’s been married to Lily?”
Charlotte chuckled, “Lily isn’t enough to wipe me off his memory, mum. Look at me.” She gave a twirl as she spoke, causing Lily to grip the sides of her dress. A nasty remark played at the tip of her tongue but she swallowed it, and smiled,
“Well, I think he should be here if he really was to honour your invitation. Don’t you think so?” The smile on Charlotte’s face dropped, causing Lily’s to widen, but her victory was short–lived when a car honked outside.
The blood in her veins turned to ice for a split second, and she hoped that maybe it was her father pulling in from work. Asher already told her he was going for a business meeting, there’s no way he would suddenly turn around and come here. especially now!
Her hopes were however dashed once again when her father casually strolled into the kitchen, dressed casually.
Lily, you are here… Alone.” She gulped at her father’s icy tone. He has always made his disapproval of her coming to the dinners alone, according to him, that shows that she’s not performing her wifely duties well, and if Asher should show up here because Charlotte invited him, he would not hesitate to throw her presumed incompetence in her face.
“Hello to you too…” She greeted with a smile, trying to sound cheerful but a glare from her father shut all that down.
“Are you trying to play smart now? Again and again you have shown your incompetence in this marriage that it keeps me up at night wondering when next the deal will fall through. I’d rather you don’t show your face if you’re coming to come alone. it’s better to think of your incompetence and failures in your absence rather than have your face remind me of it all the time.
“It’s safe to assume that my wife isn’t the one you’re referring to in such manners, right, Mr Morgan?” A familiar voice asked and all eyes darted towards Asher in surprise.
Lily felt her world crumble before her when Charlotte smirked smugly, and walked over to him proudly. She attempted to
wrap
her arms around him, but Asher moved away just in time and walked over to Lily instead. He lifted his hand, causing Lily to flinch but he placed it gently on her cheek and flicked the teardrops that were threatening to fall away, and Lily’s eyes widened, not just at his actions, but the tenderness that came with it.
“I’m sorry
I’m late, love. The meeting took longer than expected. He said, and Lily swallowed. Her eyes darted around the faces of her family members before it landed on Asher’s again, and she struggled to find the words to answer his question.
“Ashy!” Charlotte squealed, and ran over to them. “Don’t you think you’re speaking to the
“Mr and Miss Morgan…” He said, cutting her off, and Charlotte’s face turned red. I would apologize for my rudeness, but I’m yet to hear an apology from Mr Morgan for speaking to my wife the way he was.” He wrapped his arms around a dumbfounded by and pulled her closer to himself.
Mr Morgan chuckled nervously, stroking his beards. “I was simply cautioning my daughter, and…”
“My wife, you mean.” He said, and Mr Morgan swallowed. “She doesn’t bear the surname Morgan, anymore. She bears my

Chapter 10
“There’s no need to argue about all this, we can all just sit down and have a nice meal. Look mum- she stretched out the gift box,” I packed some desserts” Miss Morgan smiled gratefully at her and took the gift box from her.
“Actually, we won’t be staying for dinner. All eyes went to Asher gain, but he turned towards Lily with a smile.” She must have forgotten our plans, but we are to travel today on a vacation to Paris, and our flight leaves soon.”
Lily’s brows creased as she tried to make sense of what he was saying, “a vacation? What vaca=”
“I deeply apologize, but we have to leave now.” He gave a quick low to her parents, before he joined their arms together and turned to walk away with a confused Lily.
She trudged behind him quietly, trying to make sense of the entire situation without embarrassing herself and him before her parents. Just as they were about to leave the house, a sharp cry elicited from the house, and they both turned to see Charlotte on the floor, cradling her ankle.
“It hurts, it hurts so bad. She moaned, her eyes glued to Asher’s face. Asher spared her nothing more than a glance, before he rugged on Lily’s arm and they both walked away
Once they were settled in the car, Lily’s nerves finally relaxed a little and all the questions she had been holding in began shooting out of her mouth.
“Where are we going? Paris? When did we make such plans? Why aren’t you answering me!!”
“Maybe If you stop asking all your questions at once, I can answer you.” Asher retorted with a glare, and Lily thinned her lips. “We’re going to Paris for a week, the business deal you cursed has gone haywire and you’re going to patch it up.”
Lily’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets at his words and she vehemently shook her head. “First of all, no! Second oFall, nooooo! I didn’t cause any business deal to go haywire, so I have no responsibility to patch anything! And I can’t travel for week, I have a job to report to on Monday!”
“Well, that sucks because we’re going to Paris and that’s final.”
