Chapter 9
After Xavion was rushed to the hospital, Camryn stayed with Yvette in rise hospital room throughout the night.
At 8:00 am, the alarm Camryn had set earlier went off.
Seeing the note on the screen that read “Leave,” Yvette suddenly snapped out of her daze. She hugged Camryn tightly, her face full of reluctance
“Camryn, don’t go. Please don’t go! If you leave now, we probably won’t see each other again for three years. By then, you’ll be a superstar. It’ll be even harder for us to meet. I don’t want to let you go…”
Camryn’s eyes turned red as well. She gently patted Yvette on the back.
After a long time of comforting, Yvette finally let her go, crying as she reluctantly said goodbye,
Camry soon walked out of the hospital. She was about to hail a cab when she suddenly froze in place.
She had said goodbye to everyone but Xavion
She stood there, lost in thought. They were together for three years after all. It only seemed right for there to be closure.
She turned back and headed to the hospital room again. But as she reached the door, she heard a familiar voice coming from inside. Zara was in Navion’s arms, crying as if her heart was breaking-
were you so foolish? I know you still have
“I just wanted you to take a stand! If you couldn’t find the necklace, you could’ve just come back up. Why w feelings for me. If you break up with her and ask me out, I’ll say yes. Can’t you just give in for once?”
These were the words Xavlion had waited six long years to hear.
But now that they were spoken, he wasn’t as happy as he thought he would be
Instead, the word “breakup” made him think of Camryn.
He recalled how Camryn had fearlessly thrown herself in front of a car to protect him, said she would love him for a lifetime while teary–eyed, and smiled so brightly while celebrating his birthday. He remembered the countless moments when she had been vulnerable yet filled with love as they got
intimate
For a moment, his head throbbed with pain, and his thoughts were in complete disarray. He didn’t know how to respond.
Just then, he unintentionally looked up and caught a glimpse of Camryn, who was standing outside the glass window, staring straight at him.
Her dark eyes were calm, like a serene lake without a single ripple.
The instant their gazes met, Xavion’s composure completely unraveled. He pushed Zara away and stood up
But when he turned back, the figure outside had already disappeared.
He rushed out, only to find the hallway empty.
Did he imagine seeing her there?
That must be it.
He hadn’t told anyone that he risked his life diving into the water for Zara’s necklace or that he had been hospitalized. There was no way Camryn could have known and come to see him
Xerion’s heart pounded fiercely in his chest. He felt like something was slipping out of his grasp, but he couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Meanwhile, Camryn had already given up on saying goodbye.
When she returned home, she silently tore the page off her calendar and placed her house key on the ta
downstairs.
On the way to the airport, she opened her chat with Xavion..
After a long pause, she finally typed three lines,
“Let’s break up. Thank you for taking care of me these past few years.
“I wish you and Zara happiness.
“Xavion, I’m leaving Let’s never incet again!
With just one sentence, she let go of a three–year–long love.
With one wish for his happiness, she set him free.
With one goodbye forever, she made it clear that they didn’t have a future together,
From now on, Xavion would just be her best friend’s brother.
After pressing “send“, she waited a long time.
She didn’t receive a reply.
table. Then, she picked up her luggage and headed
Camryn knew Xavion, who was likely with Zara right now, probably was too preoccupied to notice such trivial messages,
Even if he eventually saw them, he wouldn’t feel anything, Why would he, when the person he loved was already by his side? Why bother with an ex who was nothing more than a stand–in?
Before boarding, Zayne handed her a new phone.
“Camryn, as per the contract, you’ll need to cut off all connections with the outside world starting today. This is your work phone.”
Camryn nodded and handed over her phone, completing the exchange
As the plane took off, the PA announcements were noisy. The group of girls in the seats behind her chattered loudly.
Camryn didn’t notice the screen of her phone light up one last time before it was shut off, nor did she hear the frantic series of notification pings.
She turned her head and gazed out the airplane window at the cloudy but clearing skies.
A taint smile appeared on her lips.
From now on, Camryn’s life ahead would be nothing but clear skies.
