Chapter 8
As soon as she got out of the car, Yvette grabbed Camryn and started sprinting toward the lake, explaining the situation in fragments along the w
“Zara’s ex–boyfriend followed her bere from abroad, begging her to get back together. Xav got into a fight with him. Instead of stopping them, Zara egged them on. She even threw a necklace into the lake, saying whoever retrieved it would be the one she’d choose to be with.
The ex was about to dive in, and Xa wouldn’t back down either. But there’s an underwater cliff in that lake. Not even professional divers dare to go in! A lot of people tried to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen Camryn, please, you have to help me! He’s my only brother!”
The more Yvette spoke, the more silent Camryn became.
She wanted to tell Yvette that if this involved Zara, not even a hundred of her could convince Xavion to stop
But seeing Yvette’s tear–reddened eyes, Camryn couldn’t bring herself to say it.
When they reached the Lakeside, Xarion was already putting on a wetsuit. Zara’s ex–boyfriend had just jumped into the water after gearing up.
As the ex–boyfriend’s figure disappeared beneath the surface, a cold glint flashed in Xavion’s eyes. Xarion started gearing up quicker.
A few of his friends nearby were desperately urging him to stop
“It’s such a deep lake. There’s no way anyone’s finding that necklace! It’s a pointless risk, Xavion. Don’t be stupid!”
“Is a woman worth risking your lite for? Xavion, snap out of it, for goodness‘ salo!”
But Xavion wasn’t listening at all. He secured his oxygen mask and shoved the group blocking his path aside.
Yvette couldn’t hold back any longer. She ran up to him and grabbed his arm, pleading in a voice filled with despair. “Are you going to die over something
she said? Xay, have you thought about Mom and Dad? Have you thought about Camryn? If you go down there today, I’ll lose my brother!”
The atmosphere instantly froze
Xavion stopped in his tracks and turned to stare steadily at his sister.
Alter a long pause, he raised his hand and bald Yvette’s hand.
“I’ll be back,” he promised in a low voice. “Don’t tell Mom and Dad about this, and definitely don’t tell Camryn.”
With that, he pried Yvette’s fingers away one by one and unhesitatingly dove into the lake.
Watching the ripples spread across the water, Camryn stood a short distance away with her fists clenched tightly.
The surroundings fell silent–until someone let out a soft laugh, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
Was Zima
She strutted confidently to Camryn’s side, her face brimming with smugness.
“He loves me so much he’s willing to risk his life for me: Camryn, how can you possibly compete with that?”
“Zara, why would you joke about a person’s life? If you’re sick in the head, you should seek treatment!”
Watching Zara showing off, Yvette was gasping for breath between her sobs when she suddenly lunged forward and slapped Zara hard across the face.
Zara, having never been treated like this, was about to retaliate, but the onlookers quickly stepped in to separate them.
Camryn held Yvette back, trying to calm her down. After a long while, Yvette finally quieted down, staring blankly at the equipment monitor
An hour later, Zara’s ex–boyfriend surfaced first as his oxygen had depleted.
The previously quiet lakeside immediately erupted with noise. Everyone leaned forward, scanning the water anxiously for Xavion.
But after five more minutes passed and his oxygen tank was nearly empty, Xavion still hadn’t surfaced. Panie quickly spread among the crowd.
Camryn, however, remained composed. She contacted the rescue team at the Siltom Hotel for their help.
Five or six professional divers soon leaped into the lake,
Another 10 minutes passed without any sign of Xavion
Yvette was on the verge of breaking down. Even Zara, who had initially appeared relaxed, began to show signs of unease.
While Carryn’s expression remained calm, her nails were digging deeply into her palms.
Zara’s friends, who had been treating the situation as mere entertainment, started trembling as they voiced their pessimistic thoughts.
“It’s over… He’s been out of oxygen for so long. There’s no way he’s still alive.”
“If something happens, do you think the Jacobson family will hold us accountable?”
“What does this have to do with us? He’s the one who chose to risk his life for Zara.”
Before they could finish, a sudden sound broke the long silence of the lake.
Several rescuers emerged, dragging someone slowly toward the shore

Seeing this, the crowd scrambled forward to pull the person up onto the land.
Kavin was barely clinging to consciousness,
When they removed his oxygen mask and saw his pale, almost lifeless face, his friends and Yvette’s eyes turned red with tears.
Yet Xavion, clutching his chest, fixed his unwavering gaze in Zara’s direction.
I found the… necklace.”
His trembling right hand rose as he spoke, revealing the diamond necklace washed clean by the water. Under the golden glow of the setting sun, it sparkled with breathtaking brilliance.
It was too dazzling, too painful to behold.
His eyes stayed on Zara the entire time. He was oblivious to Camryn standing not far away
Camryn could only watch in silence as Xavion poured all his passion and devotion into loving someone else.
