Chapter 20
avion hurried to the police station after receiving the news. He took a deep breath upon seeing his sister still arguing with the officers,
“I told you, she was the one who started it! The surveillance footage shows what happened!”
As Xavion walked over and pushed Yvette down into a chair, he noticed Camryn sitting inside the room.
The moment their eyes met, a flicker of surprise passed through Xavion’s eyes. He was about to ask for the details when an officer nearby spoke first.
“You’re here as their guarantor, right? They got into a fight at a calor shop. They even injured someone badly enough to send them to the hospital. The other party has agreed to settle, but they’re still refusing. You should convince them.”
The officer sighed as he left the room, and Yvette finally turned to Xavion, repeating what she had just said.
“Camryn and I are the victims here! I was just defending myself when my safety was threatened. Why should I apologize or ask for their forgiveness?”
Hearing her stubbornly defend herself, Xavion didn’t know what to do. He could only raise his voice. “Alright, let’s first get the sequence of events clear.”
Yvette finally calmed down enough to explain everything from the beginning.
When Xavion heard that Camryn had almost been injured, his heart skipped a few beats, and he instinctively looked over at her.
However, Camryn pulled a tissue from her bag to wipe the cream off Yvette’s purse rather impassively.
“If it wasn’t for my help, Camryn would be the one who’s hospitalized. I was just paying them back in kind. Why should I apologize and reconcile with them?”
Xavion’s face darkened after he heard the full story. He signed the guarantee statement and left the police station with the two women.
“Head on home. I’ll take care of this.”
Watching their car disappear out of sight, he turned and looked toward the hospital 300 feet away
Zara was in Ward 1406.
When Xavion pushed the door open, Zara had just returned from her final medical check–up. Several women surrounded her bedside, chattering and advising her.
“Zara, we can’t afford to mess with the Jacobson family. It’s just a minor injury anyway. It’s no big deal. Let it go.
“Yvette’s a bitch. Let’s steer clear of her in the future. I wouldn’t want her going crazy again.
Injured and having to endure this humiliation, Zara was fuming. She was about to blow her top when she spotted Xavion. Her furious expression instantly switched to one of pitiful grievance, her eyes misting over.
“Xavion, I knew you still care about me. I knew you’d come to see me.”
The women exchanged glances and tactfully found excuses to slip away, leaving space for the two of them.
Once the last person left, Xavion closed the door and turned back around.
Over the past three years, from parties to private encounters to work–related interactions after he rejoined the Jacobson Group, he and Zara had run into each other at least four times a week.
He had told her countless times that it was over between them. Yet, Zara still wouldn’t give up. Stubbornly believing he was just mad at her, she relentlessly chased after him.
Eventually, Xavion stopped explaining. He let her orchestrate “coincidental” encounters while he offered no response.
During this time, he had heard about various conflicts between Zara and Yvette. Since most were just verbal spats, he hadn’t paid much attention.
He never imagined that his years of indifference had not made Zara come to her senses but had instead made her bolder.
The thought of Camryn nearly getting hurt today left Xavion deeply displeased.
His face was cold as he watched Zara approach him with teary eyes, extending her hand pitifully.
Just as she was about to touch his hand, he took a few steps back and spoke in a low voice, “I’ve already heard about what happened from Yvie. Camryn just returned to the country not long ago and hasn’t had any prior interactions with you. Why did you deliberately pick on her?”
