Chapter 19
The two of them slept in until the afternoon the next day.
After freshening up, Yvette, who complained about being hungry, took Camryn out to a newly opened dessert shop she wanted to try.
The shop was located halfway up a hill. Since it was a weekday, there weren’t many customers.
The two found a spot on the terrace, enjoying the view of the lush greenery and red blossoms on the mountain while sharing secrets.
Just as their conversation was getting lively, a few people walked by. One of them tilted their tray, causing the cream cake on it to fall onto Camryn.
Camryn looked at her now messy and dirty clothes, furrowing her brow slightly as she grabbed a few napkins to clean herself up.
The woman who caused the accident was about to apologize but froze in surprise when she recognized Camryn and Yvette.
“What are you two doing here?”
Hearing the familiar voice, Yvette stopped helping Camryn wipe the mess and looked up, only to see Zara
It had been more than six months since they’d last met, yet Zara was still the same always out and about with a noisy entourage.
Zara’s expression instantly turned complicated at the unexpected meeting
Yvette’s expression darkened as she immediately shielded Camryn behind her. “Do you not have a mouth? Can’t you say sorry? Figures, birds of a feather,
she spar
Hearing her sarcastic remark, the woman who caused the accident g
glared angrily, ready to lash out, but Zara stopped her
Zara raised an eyebrow and sneered at Yvette, who had been a thorn in her side for the past three years.
“Well, well, who do we have here? Turns out to be the crazy woman from the Jacobson family and my stand–in.”
When it came to verbal sparring, Yvette never came up short.
“Stand–in? That’s rich. Compared to someone like you–a clingy leech no one can stand- I’d say we’re doing just fine. What happened? Are you here looking for attention after Xavion rejected you again? Sorry to disappoint, but no one in the Jacobson family has time for someone as desperate as you. Give it up already.”
Being called out so directly in front of Camryn hit a nerve. Zara’s composed demeanor cracked as anger flashed across her face
“Yvette, whatever’s going on between Xavion and me is none of your business! You better watch your mouth! Before you call me desperate, take a look at the person behind you. What is she, a counterfeit?”
When it came to anything involving Camryn, Yvette was always ready to bare her claws like a fiercely protective tigress.
She couldn’t be bothered to waste time arguing. She grabbed the half–eaten cake from the table and smashed it right into Zara’s face. “Bad luck for you, huli? 13 years of chasing after a man who doesn’t want you, and now you’re tailing me and Camryn? Jealous much?”
Humiliated in front of her friends and having her carefully applied makeup ruined, Zara turned red with anger.
“Yvette, don’t think I’ll put up with you just because you’re Xavion’s sister-”
“I never asked you to. If you’re so capable, why don’t you try to fight back?”
Neither of them was willing to back down. It was clear the argument was escalating into a fight.
Zara’s friends, wary of Yvette’s background and not wanting to offend the Jacobson family, quickly held Zara back
Camryn didn’t want to ruin a beautiful vacation day over people who didn’t matter. She tried to calm Yvette down from behind. Out of consideration for Camryn, Yvette reluctantly let it go, grabbing her hand and heading down the stairs.
As they passed Zara, she deliberately stuck out a leg to trip Camryn
Caught off guard, Camryn stumbled forward, almost hitting the stone wall. Yvette managed to grab her just in time, steadying her.
The conflict, which had seemed to settle down, reignited instantly with this act of provocation
Yvette couldn’t take this lying down. She charged forward to teach Zara and her friends a lesson.
Camryn, worried that Yvette might get hurt, quickly joined the fray to help.
Amid the pushing and pulling between the two of them and Zara’s five friends, someone bit Yvette’s hand.
Without thinking. Yvette grabbed a plate from the table and swung it behind her at whoever was holding her.
Zara fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Bright red blood dripped from a wound on her forehead, splattering on the floor quietly.
