Chapter 18
“What? Did Xavion really come to see you this morning?”
Though Camryn mentioned it casually, Yvette exploded like a bomb the moment she heard it.
Seeing her so agitated, Camryn quickly pulled her to sit down, handed her a glass of juice on the table, and tried to calm her down.
“It was just about work, nothing else. Don’t make such a fuss.”
Yvette took a large gulp of orange juice, still fuming over what happened three years ago.
She complained in a tone full of righteous indignation. “He actually has the nerve to meet you! Ugh, if it weren’t for our blood relation, I’d have gotten a few people to beat him up for all the things he’s done. I warned him so many times, but he just won’t change. This won’t do. I’m going to find him tomorrow. Camryn, don’t worry, I won’t let him bother you again.”
Camryn knew Yvette was only looking out for her. But Yvette and Kavion were siblings, and she didn’t want Yvette to strain her relationship with her family because of her.
She gently tried to dissuade Yvette, “Yvie, I’ve moved on from all that. You don’t need to worry anymore. From now on, all he is to me is my best friend’s brother.
Yvette stared at her closely. Watching Camryn’s relaxed expression as she said this, she finally believed that Camryn had let it go.
“Brother? I don’t acknowledge someone like that as my brother. From now on, just treat him like a stranger. Avoid him. And if he dares to bother you again, you come to me, and I’ll deal with him.”
Seeing her rambling about standing up for her, Camryn felt a warmth in her heart. She pulled Yvette into a hug.
“Alright, you’re absolutely right. I’ll do as you say!”
Only then did Yvette feel somewhat satisfied, feeding Camryn a few pieces of fruit.
Watching Camryn devouring the fruits, Yvette suddenly remembered something and quickly asked, “You said he approached you for work. What is it about?
“He invit
Invited me to join ‘Voice of the Heart‘ Season 3 as a regular guest.”
Hearing this, Yvette suddenly recalled that her family was indeed the largest investor in this program. Frowning, she hesitated before mentioning. “This program is one of Xavion’s investments, and it’s been highly popular domestically these past two years. What’s his intention for making you one of the four regular guests?”
Camryn had pondered over this herself. But no matter what his motives were, securing such an opportunity was undoubtedly a significant break for a rooke like her. She decided not to overanalyze it.
“Who cares? Besides, the company is backing me; nothing bad will happen. My only concern is whether people will call me an ‘opportunity leech‘ sink
landed such a great gig out of nowhere.”
“Not a chance with me around!” Yvette declared confidently, “Camryn, don’t worry about public opinion. I’ll handle your online reputation. If anyone dares to call you an ‘opportunity leech,” I’ll have a custom music variety show tailored just for you to prove what real connections look like.” Seeing Yvette more at ease, Camryn felt a sense of relief and played along.
“Who’s going to watch if it’s just me alone? Why don’t you bring in some of those big–shot artists and celebrities from your circle to be my guests? That’ll generate buzz. You’re just losing money promoting me otherwise.”
“What’s money between us? Promoting you is a no–brainer. Who’s got a problem with that?”

The women bantered back and forth, thoroughly enjoying themselves. They talked until dawn was breaking before Yvette finally started to feel sleepy.
Seeing this, Camryn tucked her in carefully and turned off the lights. She smiled as she listened to the soft, steady breathing beside her.
Things weren’t the same as before. But thankfully, she and Yvette remained just as close as ever.
