“Let Me Go, My Alpha Husband) Chapter 3

Grant looked up in surprise at my retreating back. That strange unease
washed over him again. But Wanda whimpered his name, anchoring his
attention. He comforted her, his focus entirely on her. His alpha instincts were
overriding any other consideration.
I paid my respects to Professor Miller, bowing, and offered condolences to
his grieving wife.
“Mrs. Miller, I offer my deepest sympathies for your loss.”
Mrs. Miller nodded, her hand finding mine.“You are Grant’s…companion,
yes? Thank you for coming. I understand you two were to be wed. He is a good
boy, and he told me he would abstain from mating for six moon–turns. I feel
deeply sorry for this.”
I listened silently, omitting any mention of Grant and Wanda’s scheme. Mrs.
Miller saw my pain and sighed.
“Grant is like a son to us. He has been my husband’s student, from pup to
Alpha, and he truly cares for us. That is why he made this decision. Do not blame
him.”
”
I already had a new mate; of course, I wouldn’t blame him. “I understand.”
Seeing my composure, Mrs. Miller confided, “Do not harbor resentment

toward Wanda. She is…clingy, but Grant does not desire her. He…cares deeply
for you.”
I stiffened. Truly? I hadn’t perceived it.
Seeing my disbelief, Mrs. Miller continued, “My dear, I speak the truth. We
believed he prioritized his research above all else until you appeared. He
constantly mentioned you without realizing it. He spoke of encountering you, of
the meals you prepared, of how you sought his bond…He sounded like he was
complaining, but we know better.”
Mrs. Miller detailed Grant’s affection, but I found it ironic.
Perhaps my former self would have rejoiced.
If Grant truly cared for me, why couldn’t I feel it? Why had he not waited for
me? If he loved me, why contemplate a child with another? The moment he
acquiesced to Wanda, it was finished.
It was over.
For the remainder of the memorial, Grant remained with Wanda. Only after
its conclusion, in the pouring rain, did he approach me. His words were glacial.”
Enter the vehicle.”
I approached him, but the window rolled down. Wanda sat in the passenger
seat, Mrs. Miller in the back.

Before I could speak, Wanda’s voice, choked with tears, sliced through the
air.“Grant, I wish to visit Father’s grave. Just you, me, and Mother, is that
agreeable?”
Mrs. Miller frowned.“Wanda, be civil.”
Her words somehow enraged Wanda, who dissolved into fresh tears.“It is
Father’s funeral! Can she not take a carriage?”
Mrs. Miller attempted to intervene, but Grant had already decided.
“I shall collect you later,” he stated, his tone brooking no argument. Then he
drove off, leaving me alone in the rain.
Left behind, I felt nothing. The coldness mirrored Grant’s own heart.
