The mockery continued, and many tried to cash in with fake leads and
photoshopped pictures. But then, some real leads started to trickle in. People,
seeing the possibility of a payout, began to look in earnest.
Word reached Amelia. The internet was buzzing, everyone wanting to know
her whereabouts. She felt no gratitude, only annoyance. Hadn’t she made her
intentions clear?
She wouldn’t go back. Not now, not ever. She read Silas’s online apologies
and scoffed. If she hadn’t left, would he be doing this? No. He’d probably be even
more brazen, moving on from Bethany to someone else. Once a cheater, always a
cheater.
Why should she forgive him? She was happy. She was living the life she’d
always dreamed of. A quiet guesthouse by the sea, a few pets, new friends, and
the freedom to paint whenever she pleased.
Her health had improved drastically since leaving Silas. Her doctor was
impressed.
She closed her eyes, tuning out the noise. She knew what she wanted. And it
wasn’t a life with Silas Sterling.
Her plane landed. As she turned on her phone, a familiar number flashed on
the screen. Silas. She declined the call and blocked him.

But he was persistent. He called from different numbers, the same relentless
determination he’d shown when he was pursuing her. The endless calls were not
romantic; they were annoying. Who was he trying to impress? She’d once found his persistence endearing, his unwavering pursuit a testament to his love. Now, it
was just irritating.
Finally, exasperated, she answered.“Silas, we’re done. I don’t love you
anymore.” Her voice was flat, final.
Silence. Then, a choked whisper.“Amy…” He struggled to speak, his voice thick with emotion. He hadn’t heard her voice in so long. Seeing her photos online had been the only thing keeping him going. Hearing her voice now was
almost too much to bear.
