Lily is light) Chapter 8

Day one, Vanessa sent a photo of Trent peeling shrimp for her; I burned all our photos in a brazier.
Day two, Vanessa sent a photo of Trent kissing her under a sycamore tree; I had the sycamore trees in the backyard
cut down.
Day three, Vanessa showed me the sweet nothings Trent said on her live stream; I found the hundreds of love letters Trent had written to me.
They were yellowed with age, but the
words were still clear. I touched the words,
then mercilessly fed them into a shredder.

On the day I left, I woke up to see Trent standing by the bed. He held my
phone, his expression serious.
“Honey, you received a text message saying it’s all taken care of. What did you
do?”
My heart skipped a beat. I grabbed my phone and turned it on. It was the confirmation message for my identity
cancellation. Luckily, my phone was password–protected; Trent wouldn’t
know what it was.
I calmed down. “Nothing. One of my social media accounts was hacked. I had
someone get it back.”
Trent relaxed, hugging
me.“Sweetheart, guess what I bought you?”

“How did you know?” Trent looked surprised.
How could I not know? When we were dating, he would go to the south of the city to buy me candies to apologize to me every time he made me angry. The sweet and sour candies could always soften my heart. It meant more to me than expensive jewelry and purses.
At that time, he laughed, “My Lily is the best. One box of candies and you
forgive me.”
I poked his forehead. “It’s not because
of the candy. It’s because I love you. If one
day I don’t love you anymore, even if you

Memories flooded back. Trent put
out a box of candies, smiling
tenderly. “You know me so well.”
I smiled. “Yes, I know you too well.”
Trent’s heart skipped a beat. “Honey…”
I got up to wash. When I came out, Trent had already left in a hurry. I
followed him.
At the door, I saw Vanessa. I never
thought she would have the nerve to
come here.
