A picture followed. Their bed, rumpled and messy.

He typed a furious reply: Bethany, I warned you. Amy was not to find out
about us.
Bethany scoffed when she saw the text. She called him, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Amelia, is that you? You’re getting pretty good at impersonating Silas. If I were you, I’d give up the ‘Mrs. Sterling‘ title gracefully. I’m carrying Silas’s child. He might even propose soon. Then you’ll be the one getting kicked to the curb. Save yourself the humiliation and step aside now. At least you’ll
avoid the drama.”
Her voice dripped with smug satisfaction. But the silence on the other end unnerved her. She pushed down the feeling and continued. “Amelia, cat got your tongue? I told you, Silas loves me. He’s just pretending with you.”
Silas’s voice, cold and sharp, shattered her smug confidence. “Oh really? You‘
re nothing but a plaything. You have no right to even speak Amy’s name.”
“I’ve been far too lenient with you. You’ve overstepped.”
Tell me. What did you say to her?”

His voice was laced with ice, each word a hammer blow to her heart. It’s over,
I’m done for. She trembled, her grip loosening on her phone.
No. He wouldn’t. I’m carrying his child.
The thought gave her a flicker of courage. Tears welled in her eyes. “Silas, I’m… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to… Mrs. Sterling, she started it! I was just defending myself… I know I was wrong. Please don’t be angry. I’m scared.” She mimicked the submissive, tearful act that had worked so well before.
But this time, Silas wasn’t having it.“Enough. If you won’t tell me the truth, I‘ Il find out myself.” He hung up without giving her a chance to explain.
He had someone confiscate Bethany’s phone before she could delete anything. He scrolled through her texts to Amelia. A barrage of taunting
and explicit photos, spanning the past two weeks. messages
Silas’s stomach churned. He could barely stand to look at them. Just
imagining Amelia reading these messages made him sick. He couldn’t fathom
how she’d endured it. If she’d done this to him, he would have lost his mind.
His face paled, his heart heavy with guilt and regret.
It took a long time for the shock to wear off. When it did, his face hardened,
his eyes
cold and dangerous.

“Get off me.” Silas grabbed her chin, his grip so tight that his fingers left bruises.“You shouldn’t have messed with Amy. I warned you. She’s everything to me. And now you’ve driven her away. You’ll pay for that.” He flung her aside.
Bethany stumbled, barely regaining her balance. “My baby! You can’t hurt my baby!” She stared at him in disbelief.“Amelia is so important to you? What about me? What about our child? Don’t you care about him? We spent so many nights together! You have feelings for me too, don’t you?” Her voice cracked with
desperation.
Silas’s eyes remained cold.
