Jake kept the remainder of his confession to himself. What he’d said was enough to shock me.
We reached our dwelling. He took my luggage, secured the carriage, and
ignored my outstretched hand to head towards the elevator.
We were neighbors. Maintaining silence in the elevator, I avoided his

gaze.
The elevator dinged. He led me to my door, respecting my need for space. He
ruffled my hair and turned to leave, adding, “I shall arrive with my parents to
discuss the details of our bonding. Rosie, do not forget we are to be wed.”
His teasing made me blush. I rolled my eyes and opened the door without
speaking. He didn’t mind, heading cheerfully towards the stairs.
The dwelling was quiet. Six years away, and I felt a touch of apprehension.

“I am still your granddaughter. That will not change.” I leaned on him,
feeling calmer.
Grandpa chuckled.“I believed you were to be wed. Why have you returned?”
I shook my head. He did not deserve me. The union is cancelled.” Seeing his
worried face, I added, “Jake is bringing his parents to discuss our upcoming
bonding.”
Grandpa’s eyes widened.“That pup has been awaiting you, and now his
dream is realized.”
