(Let Me Go, My Alpha Husband) Chapter 9

After that, I began packing. I’d envisioned this place as my home, filling it
with my things, hoping that Grant would transform into someone who couldn’t
bear to be without me.
But it hadn’t happened.
Packing was slow. Grant returned late, finding my room filled with
belongings.
He entered, surprised “What are you doing? A journey?”
I continued packing, my back to him. My lips curved into a wry smile. He
had no idea that I’d resigned.
He didn’t consider my departure. That was fine. I didn’t wish to inform him,
so I merely nodded.
“When do you depart?”
I didn’t lie.“Tomorrow morn.”
He didn’t question further and prepared a meal. His cooking was excellent,
but he rarely found time to cook for me. He had been cooking frequently lately,
but it was all for Wanda.

After the meal, he presented a gift box. That was rare.
Instead of accepting it, I asked, “What is it?”

“I–I apologize for what transpired that day.” He hesitated, remembering my
expression when he left the healer’s den with Wanda.
I understood. He did this out of guilt. But I had already decided to let him go,
I didn’t require it.
My indifference surprised him, but remembering what he needed to say, he
continued.“Wanda is struggling, so I am taking several days to care for her.”
He watched me, but my face remained impassive. There was no anger
anymore.
I was at peace. What else could I say? He never requested leave for me, even
on my birth–day or when I was ill. And now he decided to take time off to care
for Wanda. I had nothing to say.
“Proceed.” Hearing this, he rose and embraced me. The scent of his alpha
pheromones was overwhelming but no longer alluring.
“Rosie, Wanda is my mentor’s daughter. Since his passing, she has not been
herself. I shall compensate you later, is that agreeable?
I neither accepted nor rejected. There was no later.”

The next morn, seeing my bags packed, Grant bought me breakfast.“I shall
transport you to the airship landing.”
I ate breakfast quietly. Just as we were ready to leave, he checked his phone
and said, “Rosie, I must depart.”
I knew it was Wanda.“Proceed.”
He turned before leaving.“Inform me of your arrival; I shall collect you.”
He vanished. I looked around the room, remembering my initial excitement and my subsequent loneliness. Then, a wave of relief washed over me.
you.
I left a note: Grant, we are severed. I am bonding with another, but not with
I departed. He was not in my future.
