Chapter 42
Just as Christopher was about in get in the car, he heard Rebecca’s sharp warning voice.
His hands paused on the door handle. Raising an eyebrow, he listened with great amusement.
The couple huddled in the back seat widened their eyes and desperately tried to free their gagged mouths. Only then did Rebecca realize Christopher had caught and tied them up.
Again, herrage surged. She reached out and yanked the gap out of Chad’s mouth.
As soon as Chad could speak, he began pleading, “Please let us go this one time. We didn’t really mean to kidnap you. Look, can’t we talk this through? We have our family to feed, and it both of us go to jail, they’re gonna starve!TM
Rebecca remained calm and cold. “They’re gonna starve? Did you ever think about what would happen to me? Your lives matter, but not mine huh?”
Still holding the door handle, Christopher curved his lips slightly at her words. He hadn’t expected her to be so sharp–tongued.
Chad choked on has words and struggled to respond. “Can’t you be more forgiving? You weren’t seriously hurt, and we promise we’ll apologize. Plus, it wasn’t on purpose. It was because someone at the guest house…”
Carlstopped Chad before he could finish. They had received son dollars for the job.
Now that their plan had failed and they were likely to end up in jail, they would lose the 500 dollars if they admitted that someone had paid them off. If they kept the money, they could leave it to their son
Rebecca narrowed her eyes dangerously and probed, “What? What about the night at the guest house?”
“Well. That night at the guesthouse you were so pretty, so we…”
Rebecca’s lips twitched in helplessness. It seemed the couple was beyond redemption. “You violated the law, so you deserve punishment.‘
“How could you be this heartless? Can’t you see how pitiful we are?
Before Rebecca could respond, Christopher opened the car door. The chill of the night air rushed in and cut off Christopher. He was too terrified to meet his gaze.
Chad’s words. His eyes darted away from
Christopher got into his seat with a gloomy expression. “It seems you still don’t understand the law. Kidnapping a woman is punishable by Imprisonment for five to ten years. If you’re as pititul as you claim, you wouldn’t have stopped to such trickery.”
He showed the gag back into Chad’s mouth.
The couple in the backseat turned pale. Five to ten years? That’d won them for Iste How w could their son get married and have a family?
Cistopher started the car and drove back to Orkney.
He had planned to drop Rebecca off at the clinic and send the couple to the police station to file a report, but Rebecca insisted on tagging along. She wanted to see the two of them put behind bars for herself before she could rest assured
Unable to dissuade her, Christopher noticed the stubborness on her face and figured she wouldn’t be swayed by a word or two. He had no choice but to drive straight to the police station
Given Christopher’s involvement, the officers dared not take the matter lightly. They immediately brought Rebecca in to take her statement. Christopher stood by the window. His gaze fell on the blood–stained shirt on her back
