Chapter 41
Rebecca’s gaze dimmed briefly. How could she explain matters from her past life?
she forced a faint smile and explained, “My father mentioned there might be war when
en he came home. He told me to take care of myself. And now that he’s gone, I want to contribute to the military whether or not there’s war.”
Christopher’s expression remained unreadable as he gave her a meaningful glance. “Does contributing to the military mean getting yourself involved in situations like this?”
Rebecca watched the soldiers bustling in and out of the yacht and gasped slightly, it did seem like she had wasted their resourc
“This was an accident. I was targeted by the couple. You saw them at the guest house when they tried to kidnap me.”
Her eyes cleared as she continued, “I’ll report them to the authorities and make sure they receive punishment, I won’t continue causing you trouble, Captain Grant. I’ll just head back for now.
Hestone grew awloward as she tried to get down from Christopher’s arms and leave. He watched her, wondering what exactly was going on through her head.
The sky was dark, and she didn’t have a phone. The Grant residence was more than 30 miles away, and she wouldn’t make it back even if she walked until the end of Time.
As she passed by him, Christopher grabbed her aun “You’re coming with me. Do you think I came all this way for no reason?
He wouldn’t have rushed over if it weren’t forher.
Rebecca blinked, and her lashes fluttered. “Thank you, Captain Grant.”
“Consider it settled.”
“Settled?” she asked and was condused.
“For pretending to be my girlfnend during that blind date. We’re even now.
Rebecca froze. Her mind flashed back to the scene when their warm lips had touched. It sent her heart racing.
She raised a hand to brush the tip of her nose and feigned a light cough. Fine. About me joining the military”
Christopher shot her a deep look and pretended not to understand. “What about it?–
Rebecca frowned. “I said I’d prove myself today. I gathered some ganodermata on Tinbago Crest, and they’re critical medicinal ingredients. If can develop something with them, won’t that prove my ability**
Christopher arched an eyebrow and countered with a question, “So, where are your ganodermata?”
Rebecca’s expression darkened at his words. Just thinking about it sent her rage flaring. She spent a whole day gathering ganodermata and had her hands rubbed raw by her shovel, just to have Carla snap them right in hal!!
She bit her lap and muttered, “I’ll just come back tomorrow and gather more.
“How dare you visit Tinbago–Crest again? Alone!” The cold fury in Christopher’s voice sent a shiver down her spine.
“But my ganodermata were thrown away..
“Tinbago Crest is off–limits to you. You’re not allowed to go alone. I’m not saving you a second time. Now, get in the car and let’s treat your wounds.”
The night breeze by the sea grew increasingly chilly. As the breeze brushed against Rebecca’s back, her blood–soaked shirt clung to her sin and was sticky and uncomfortable.
Christopher ushered her into the car. As soon as Rebecca settled into the passenger seat, a faint muffled sound from the backseat startled her.
She looked around and saw the couple who had ddnapped her tied up in the back
Anger flared instantly, and her face flushed with rage. “You twe just don’t know when to quit, do you?”
