Meanwhile, Rebecca found a public restroom where the changed out of her ruined clothes and into her new dress. The top had a white collar and the bottom was a
dels that accentuated Hebecca’s hourglass figure.
Standing in front of the amor, she gathered her hair into a loose hun, revealing her delicate, fair, and oval–shaped face
Aftertouching up, Rebecca walked back onto the busy street. Glancing at the crowded road and the stream of passersby, the furrowed her brows ever so slightly. In her past life, she had no recollection of Christopher ever going on a blind date. Now, trying to find him in the chaos of the city was proving to be a real challenge. Rebecca asked around for a reputable cate in the area and was directed to one called Muse Cafe. Without hesitation, she husled a cab and headed there.
Ten minutes later, Rebecca stepped out of the cab. She took in the sight of the cafe’s foreign–style architecture. The sycamore trees at the entrance, paired with red brick walls, made the establishme stand out strikingly from the other shops.
Rebecca walked in a friendly server greeted her and handed over a menu as she sat down. At this time, coffee culture wasn’t widely popular in the area yet, with only a few cales scattered across ckley. They were mostly run by foreigners.
Rebecca glanced at the menu, and her eyes widened–a cup of coffee cost 30 dollars! She took a sharp breath. Life in the city was clearly no joke
*No thanks. I’ll just have a glass of water,” she said.
The men showed that water was the cheapest item, priced at just three dollars. Back in Harton Fields, one could buy an entire bag of sweet potatoes at that price! The server gave her a sideways glance before huming away and muttering under her breath, “She can’t even afford a cup of coffee.”
The comment didn’t escape Rebecca’s ears, but she simply pursed her lips as she couldn’t be bothered to argue. Instead, she stood up and began scanning the café, hoping to catch a glimpse of Christopher.
After Rebecca failed to find him in the main area, she tumed her attention to the private booths. Each was sectioned off with curtains. Holding onto a thread of hope, she approached them. Just as she neared, she heard Christopher’s cold, low voice from one of the booths.
“Ms. Paine, I have no plans to get married right now. Tonly came today out of respect for Commander Paine. I apologize.”
“Christopher, we haven’t even had the chance to get to know each other. How can you be so sure I’m not suitable for you? We’re a good match, and you’ll benefit greatly if I marry you,” Lydia argued
“simply have no intention of getting married now,” Christopher repeated
“Are you planning to stay single forever? Or do you already have someone you love?” Lydia pressed, her dissatisfaction evident.
To be honest, Lydia hadn’t wanted to attend this blind date at first. Her father, Richard Payne, a lifelong military officer who was rarely home, was the source of her mother’s endless complaints and resentment
Now, he was trying to pair her up with another officer. How could such a manage provide her the care she wanted?
But upon meeting Christopher in person, Lydia’s mind changed in an instant.
Christopher was way too handsome–more striking than any celebrity she had ever seen. He was the embodiment of perfection, with his broad shoulders, trim waist, and commanding presence exuding sheer masculinity. No woman wouldn’t be attracted to him.
Lydia, having just entered the entertainment industry with her recent TV show debut, considered herself beautiful and more than a good match for Christopher But to her dismay, he immediately rejected her.
“Christopher, do you understand that your unit recently suffered a casualty due to poor decision–making, leading to you being severely penalized? The rank you were previously aiming for is now out of reach. If you marry into the Paine family, your career will progress smoothly with my father’s support. I’m sure you won’t tum down the opportunities the Paine family can offer.”
Lydia played her final card, hoping to away Christopher
“Ms. Paine, I
“I don’t want ‘no‘ foran answer” Lydia’s tone grew asse “Chris, so this is where you are!” Rebecca interrupted them.
