Chapter 19
Rebecca blinked, feeling momentarily at a loss for words.
did she kouw? et course, she couldn’t tell Christopher that this was her second life and she carried the memories of her past into the present. That was how she his team would soon face a severe shortage of supplies–mindrect tacter leading to Christopher’s eventual sacrifice.
Rebecca lifted her head to meet Chastopher’s eves. She let out a soft gasp because his grip i
“My dad mentioned it in a letter to me.” she lied. “I put guessed. I feel that right now, the team is short on doctors, but not many women would willingly endure such hardships. I’m willing to take it on, and I have away to address the medicine shortage. Chris, can’t you give me a chance?”
Hirveke was gentle and soft. Christopher’s brows Furrowed deeply Without hesitation, he rebuked her, “Don’t call me Chris.”
“We’ll discuss this some other time. Rebecca, don’t pull any tricks with me–I don’t like cunning women.”
Rebecca put on an innocent look “so, Chris, are you saying you’ll love me if I don’t pull tricks?***
Chistopher’s expression darkened even more. He leaned in closer, his voice lowering as he wamed, “Do you even realize what you’re saying?”
Rebecca pursed her lips and regretted her playful teasing.
She might have had the guts to act recklessly with Christopher at such close range in her past life, but in this life, she no longer had such courage to fool around him. Romance no longer interested her. With a second chance at life, she hoped to live a beautiful life. She wanted to make sure her father didn’t die in vain while also taking responsibility for her own future!
“Here’s the deal. Before you leave, I’ll find the medicinal herbs and get them ready. If I succeed, that means I’m qualified for the team, okay?
Christopher stared at the determined look on her face. His heart wavered a little, though his expression betrayed nothing. Letting go of her chin, he opened the door and gritured for her to leave.
Rebecca figured she’d said enough. It wouldn’t be appropriate to stay any longer. So, she obediently turned and left.
That entire night, Christopher lay awake in bed, tossing and tuming. His mind was filled with Rebecca’s image.
What son of spell did she cast on him, keeping him restless all night?
The next day, Rebecca woke up early and came downstals to see Ruby busy making breakfast,
She glanced over but said nothing. As she descended the stairs, Ruby said, “Rebecca, I’m not sure what you like to eat, so I didn’t make anything for you. Let me know what you like, and I’ll make it for you in the future.”
Duncan, who was reading the newspaper on the couch, couldn’t help but look over. He hadn’t expected the two young women to get along so well. Ruby seemed like a polite and well–mannered woman, much to his delight
Rebeccamet Ruby’s gaze and secretly decided to get Ruby into trouble. She refused to play along
“It’s fine. Neither of us is here to be a cook. We’re good as long as we can take care of ourselves without troubling Mr. Duncan.
Huby was rendered speechless, she snapped, “Feel free to check out the kitchen, then. Mr. Duncan, is the breakfast I made today to your taste?”
“Ruby, your cooking is indeed delicious,” Duncan said approvingly. “Christopher, you’re just in tin Come try some.too.”
Ruby’s face lit up with a warm smile the moment she saw christopher coming down the stairs. She looked forward to him joining them for breakfast.
Christopher looked over “Isn’t this spread only enough for three?
“Mr. Christopher, I don’t know Rebecca’s food preferences. Besides, she said she could take care of breakfast herself.”
Christopher replied coolly, “She can live my share I’m not eating. I’m heading out now”
Duncan watched as Christopher strode away without hesitation. He immediately called after Christopher, “Don’t forget your blind date today! I’ll seriously cut ties with you if you skip it!”
