Christopher would take Rebrera and Ruby back to the Grant residence the next day.
Since Duncan had only adopted two girls, Christopher’s role in escorting them was to ensure their safety during the journey. Once he returned them to the Grant residence, his responsibility would be over, and he would head back to his unit.

At that moment, Ruby walked out of her room, pulling her luggage behind her. When she closed the door, she heard Rebecca’s soft, sweet voice and immediately looked over. A flash of barely concealed imitation flickered in her eyes.
Ruby thought bitterly, “What a shameless little thirt! She’s already throwing herself at Christopher!”
Christopher’s gaze remained red on Rebecca Watch where you’re walking. What if you bumped into someone?”
Rebecca blinked innocently. “Did I almost bump into your chest?–
She was already calculating. If she remembered correctly, Christopher would not return to the Grant residence for another six months after dropping them off. II she did not make an impression now, her plan to join the military would have to be delayed even further
Though she planned to earn money while staying at the Grant residence, Vaughn had always valued perseverance and hard work over material wealth. Rebecca wanted to honor his legacy by following through with her military ambitions, not getting distracted by other pursuits.
Ruby, who had been silently eavesdropping, felt a wave of satisfaction at the hint of disdain in Christopher’s voice. Pulling her luggage over, she forced a smile. “Chris, Reberra, what are you two talking about so early?”
Christopher let go of Rebecca’s arm without a word
Rebecca glanced at Ruby, her tone calm. “It’s nothing. Let’s just get going.” With that, she tumed and headed downstairs
Meanwhile, Christopher glared at Ruby briefly before making a move to leave without saying a word.
Unwilling to let the moment go, Ruby called out, “Chris, I get car sick, can you look afterme during the ride?”
Christopher did not even pause as he descended the stairs. There’s a pharmacy downstairs. Buy some motion sickness pills and skip healdast.”
Ruby froze in place, her grip tightening on her luggage, Christopher was always polite and gentlemanly, but she had now witnessed him interacting with Rebecca twice each time more intimately than she thought he should.
They had only just met, so why was Rebecca already so close to him?
Ruby seached silently, wondering if all men fell for take, sweet gids.

Ruby’s expression faltered. “Did I do something wrong? I just want to be your friend.‘
Rebecca finally looked at her, replying, “It’s not that. I just don’t want to make friends right now. While staying at the Grant residence, let’s focus on doing what we’re supposed to do.”
Hearing that, Ruby’s forced smile stiftered, and she fell silent. She thought spitefully, “Go ahead and keep pretending. You’re just some clueless country girl. Once you see the luxurious and sophisticated Grant residence, your true, uncultured self will come out.
