“I’m sorry…” Evelyn apologized as her eyes reddened.
Sebastian was instantly angered, but he could not stand to see her look so sad. “What are you apologizing for? Weren’t you adamant about changing fields three years ago? If anything, you should apologize to your ancestors instead.”
Evelyn had a bittersweet feeling.
In truth, Sebastian knew that she would attend the competition. Justine had run her mouth and informed him about everything in advance.
“It’s not too late, though.” He looked up at the sky and sighed.
“As long as you’re able to come to your senses, it’s never too late for you to start again. With your ability, you’re able to join any company you want. It’s the Flying Seal Group’s honor to have you.”
Evelyn had been capable enough to have been specially recruited by the Aerospace Research Institute, so her talents should not be buried and wasted.
Throughout the years, everyone was in awe of the development of the UN2 combat drone. Everyone had assumed that he was the brainchild of it, resulting in a lot of people joining the Flying Seal Group.
In truth, the UN2 combat drone was something Evelyn had developed when she was 20 years old. Up until that day, no one was able to surpass her.
She had given the people so many years to catch up with her, yet no one had been able to replicate her thoughts and skills from years ago.
“Are you allowing me to join the Flying Seal Group?” Evelyn exclaimed, overwhelmed with emotion.
With a frigid smile, Sebastian explained, “Justine has already made the decision to let you become the company’s technical shareholder. I’ll wait and see what you have to offer to the Flying Seal Group. You can report to the company on Monday!”
Evelyn knew that he was just being stubborn, and a genuine smile appeared on her face. It was the happiest she had felt in a long time. “Thank you, Sebastian.”
He snorted before continuing to mingle around with the crowd.
A heavy burden had been released from Evelyn’s heart, and she brightened up. The discomfort she felt had also morphed into a newfound energy.
Then, she rose to her full height and began observing the drones in the arena.
Suddenly, she heard a commotion up ahead. Looking up, she saw Lucas and Tiffany entering the venue with Jason and Mason beside them.
Lucas was an influential figure within Clementon, and his arrival had caused quite a stir.
Seeing how considerate Lucas was in protecting Tiffany from the crowd around him, Evelyn collected her gaze and stopped paying them attention. Instead, she focused on observing the uniquely designed drone before her.
Jason and Mason had also noticed Evelyn but relaxed when they saw how Lucas had not spared her a single glance.
By even managing to secure an invitation to such an event, Evelyn sure was something. She was truly working hard to attract Lucas‘ attention.
She was completely immersed in observing the intricate designs of the drone before her, and by the time she had snapped back to her senses, Jason and Mason had already walked up toward her.
Meanwhile, Lucas and Tiffany were also making their way toward her.
Mason mocked, “You’re just a housewife who only knows how to cook and clean. Why are you going around touching things? Do you know how expensive these things are? Do you think you’d be able to pay for it if you break it with that measly salary of yours?”
The situation was ridiculous! How could an uneducated woman pretend to be interested in drones?
Jason was also looking at Evelyn with amusement. If the incident at the club had been a misunderstanding, then what about now?
Evelyn couldn’t possibly understand a thing about drones. She should have at least picked something that was remotely believable.
Mason: placed his hand on his forehead and continued, “Ms. Reed, did you think getting an invitation to this competition would get you anywhere?
“Tiffany is the real deal here. She graduated with a PhD from Valtech University. Why don’t you pursue an education like her instead?”
Did Evelyn really think she’d be able to attract Lucas‘ attention by pretending to be interested in drones?
Coincidentally, Lucas and Tiffany had arrived just in time to hear Mason’s words. Tiffany remained calm, and she could tell that Mason was accusing Evelyn of copying her.
Lucas, on the other hand, looked at Evelyn impassively and added, “This is indeed a huge coincidence.”
His tone was composed and indifferent, but Evelyn managed to catch the deeper meaning behind his words.
Had he also misunderstood her–just like how Mason and Jason did?
Clearly, Lucas had no intention of interacting with her in public as he didn’t want anyone to misinterpret their relationship. So, without giving Evelyn a chance to explain, he simply led Tiffany toward the competition area.
Mason walked past Evelyn and suggested, “Why don’t we admire Tiffany’s ability to control a drone together? That way, you’ll finally be able to see how you’re unable to even compare to her.
”
On the other hand, Jason shoved a hand into his pocket, not even bothering to converse with Evelyn.
Once Tiffany entered the arena, the venue erupted in applause.
She smirked and raised an eye at Lucas standing on stage. On the other hand, he answered her gesture with a faint smile.
Their little interaction immediately ignited the excitement of the crowd
