Chapter 99
Seeing how enthusiastic Maria was, Evelyn felt a little uneasy. “He… already left.”
She wasn’t sure when Lucas had left last night, but judging by the untouched side of the bed, she was certain he hadn’t stayed over.
Maria’s expression changed immediately. “Left? It’s only 7:30 am. I was up by 6:00 am and never saw him leave.”
Sensing something was off, Evelyn tried to reassure her before asking, “Grandma, is something wrong?”
Maria let out a heavy sigh. “What I gave him last night wasn’t just a tonic… It was something to, well, spark his desire.”
Traditional medicine was incredibly profound. She had specially asked Rick to prepare the formula. Yet, it was clear now–it hadn’t even been used!
Evelyn certainly didn’t look like someone who had spent an affectionate night. Her expression shifted, and pressed her lips together in silence.
No wonder Lucas‘ voice sounded a little hoarse last night. As for when exactly he left…
“Grandma, tell the kitchen not to prepare breakfast for Lucas.” A lazy voice came from the stairs. Sophia yawned as she made her way down and glanced at Evelyn with a smirk. “He already ate with someone else.”
fagy, most likely. Evelyn lowered her gaze. It all made sense now. Lucas must have left last night to go find Tiffany.
Even if the so–called aphrodisiac had affected him, his desires certainly wouldn’t have been directed at her. Besides, with that seductive photo and the drug’s added effect, they must have had quite a passionate night.
Maria, on the other hand, was fuming. She let out an exasperated sigh and grumbled, “Running off first thing in the morning–what on earth is out there that keeps pulling him away?”
She had gone through all this effort, yet Lucas turned out to be utterly oblivious.
Evelyn stayed quiet. She didn’t mention that Lucas had actually left much earlier than they thought. There was no need to upset Maria even more.
As for the drug… A faint, ironic smile tugged at Evelyn’s lips. To any outsider, she had been ignored by her husband to the point that Maria felt the need to resort to medication just to make Jhim interested in her.
But in the end, all Maria had done was set up a romantic evening for Lucas and Tiffany.
The grand opening of the Miller family’s art exhibition took place over the weekend. Sebastian had no interest in events like this, so Evelyn attended with Justine instead.
Just as Justine had described, the building was striking. It had been designed by a world–renowned architect at Harry’s request, and it stood in a prime location–nestled in a high–end commercial district.
Evelyn and Justine entered the event using Sebastian’s VIP pass.
Even someone as well–traveled and sophisticated as Justine couldn’t help but be impressed. “I heard this building alone cost over a billion–just for a personal hobby.
“But the Miller family isn’t only in business, their in–laws are the Connor family, who are deeply connected in the political world. This exhibition isn’t just about art. Attending it is practically a statement, a way to build connections in the government.”
Evelyn understood high society’s intricacies well enough. No wonder the event had such a high entry threshold.
The exhibition spanned five floors. The first two levels showcased collections from renowned artists, both local and international. Evelyn and Justine made their way toward the display areas.
