Chapter 100
As Evelyn and Justine made their way through the exhibit, someone suddenly stopped them. Flynn frowned as he looked at the two of them. “How did you get in?”
Seeing her brother, Justine rolled her eyes impatiently. “None of your business! Just worry about yourself.”
Flynn’s gaze briefly swept over Evelyn before he said coldly, “This isn’t some social media hotspot for women to take photos. Don’t cause a scene.”
Evelyn calmly took Justine’s hand and looked at Flynn. “We’re here on Mr. Hill’s behalf.”
Flynn frowned in confusion. “Since when did Sebastian get so casual and would send you two to an event meant for networking?”
He knew Justine well–she only cared about partying and having fun. And as for Evelyn, what role could she possibly play in a setting like this?
Evelyn knew Flynn had always been prejudiced against her, so she didn’t bother explaining. Instead, she simply led Justine toward another section of the exhibit.
Just then, they brushed past a man walking in the opposite direction. Brandon Connor’s gaze landed on Evelyn, lingering for a few seconds.
Flynn noticed his reaction and quickly stepped forward. “Brandon, that’s my sister. She’s a bit reckless, so I need to keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t cause trouble.” “Both of them?” Brandon raised an eyebrow.
Before Flynn could answer, a commotion erupted from the main hall. Evelyn turned her head slightly toward the noise.
Lucas and Tiffany had just arrived. As VIP guests, they were immediately surrounded by people eager to greet them.
Tiffany wore an elegant smile and lightly held onto Lucas‘ arm. She handled the attention gracefully, exuding confidence and composure.
Both of them noticed Evelyn. Lucas‘ gaze turned cold and looked away without the slightest hesitation, not sparing her another glance. Meanwhile, whenever Tiffany spoke, Lucas would lean down to listen and exchange a smile.
Justine instinctively glanced at Evelyn’s expression before gritting her teeth in frustration. “Anyone who doesn’t know better would think she’s already Mrs. Grant. Where does that leave you? He’s acting like you don’t even exist!”
He wasn’t even trying to avoid bringing Tiffany to an event Evelyn was also attending.
Evelyn lowered her gaze, her serene expression unreadable. “It’s fine. Let’s go somewhere else.”
Justine huffed. “I don’t get it! What’s so special about Tiffany? She acts all high and mighty. She’s not even as pretty as you, and professionally, she’s nowhere near your level-” “Justine!” a sharp voice interrupted. Flynn overheard her and stormed over, his expression dark. “Talking behind someone’s back–where are your manners?”
Brandon also cast a glance at both Justine and Evelyn, clearly unimpressed by their conversation.
Already irritated, Justine snapped back without hesitation, “Oh, please. I almost forgot–you’re blind, too. Too bad she’s not interested in you.”
“You-” Flynn’s face darkened with anger. His frustration quickly shifted to Evelyn. Ever since Justine started hanging out with Evelyn, she had become more reckless.
His
gaze turned sharp as he addressed Evelyn directly, his tone laced with accusation. “Ms. Reed, you seem to have a lot to say about Ms. Moore.
“So, tell me, on what basis? Are you more capable than her? Do you have a higher degree than her? Or… are you just jealous that she has a good boyfriend?”
He had already been suspicious ever since Sebastian refused to see Tiffany because of Evelyn. And now, overhearing this conversation only confirmed his suspicions.
Evelyn was deliberately going against Tiffany, trying to tarnish her reputation. Was she really that petty? Did she hate seeing another woman succeed?
And considering she was already married, there was only one explanation. “You’re not happy with your own life, so you resent women who are doing better than you, don’t you?”
His assumption was so self–righteous, so blatantly biased, that for the first time, Evelyn’s usually composed expression turned ice–cold.
Just then, Tiffany, still holding onto Lucas‘ arm, gracefully made her way over. Flynn’s words had landed perfectly within earshot.
Tiffany arched an eyebrow, and her lips curved into a faint smile. That was because she was curious, too.
