Chapter 20

Before, Evan would have retaliated without hesitation

But now, he merely wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and swallowed the humiliation. His voice was low as he said, I don’t want to fight you, Jarrett. I’ll give you whatever you want if you ask Josie to forgive me.”

Jarrett’s expression darkened instantly. A flash of disbelief crossed his face. Josie, he’syour ex?”

Joselyn’s face paled

Meanwhile, Evan turned to Jarrett again, lowering himself even further. Let me be with her, Jarrett. I’ll give you anything. Just let me have her.”

jarrett’s eyes grew even colder. Without warning, he landed another punch straight to Evan’s face. Evan didn’t fight back. He just took the hit silently. Jarrett tackled him to the ground. He slammed into Evan’s face over and over as if trying to beat every ounce of rage out of his body

Evan’s friends finally couldn’t stand by any longer. That’s enough! You’re gonna kill him at this rate! You’ll lose your future brotherinlaw!”

Jarrett let out a cold laugh. His voice dripped with mockery. Brotherinlaw? Him? Does he even have the right?”

Then, he reached into his pocket and pulled out an invitation, tossing it at Evan’s chest

Evan picked up the invitation and opened it. The moment his eyes landed on the words, his face became deathly pale

Written on the card were the words, You’re cordially invited to Joselyn and Jarrett’s wedding.”

Evan’s mind went blank with a deafening buzz, as if he’d been struck by lightning

He shot to his feet and asked shakily, The groomJarrett, what the hell is this supposed to mean?”

Jarrett’s expression remained emotionless. His voice was chillingly even. Exactly what you think it means. I’m not Josie’s biological brother. I love her, and I’ve been pursuing her for the past month. She likes me too.”

Evan felt like something inside him had been ripped apart. The pain was so intense, he could barely stay on his feet

He looked at Joselyn, despération creeping into his voice. Josie, tell me this is fake. For the love of God, tell me this is fake!”

But she met his gaze and enunciated each word clearly, It’s not fake, Evan. It’s real. I fell in love with Jarrett, the man you hate most. Are you satisfied now?”

With that, she slipped her fingers into Jarrett’s hand and walked away

When Evan saw Joselyn’s and jarrett’s fingers tightly intertwined, his eyes were filled with disbelief

Evan’s friends were equally stunned. They widened their eyes in shock and muttered under their breaths, Holy shit. What the hell just happened? My brain can’t process this. The sheer shock of the situation was written all over their faces

But for Evan, it wasn’t just shock Jealousy burned fiercely in his heart, while regret and pain surged to an unbearable peak

He couldn’t believe it. The woman who’d been closer to him than anyone else was now standing beside his worst enemy

By the time his mind caught up, Joselyn and Jarrett were already walking toward the car, ready to leave

Just as the car was about to pull away, Evan lunged forward, gripping the edge of the window so tightly his knuckles turned white. Desperation, burned in his eyes

His voice, hoarse and raw, tore from his throat. You love me, Josie! I know you do! How the hell could you fall for someone else? Tell me! Tell me why!”

Inside the car, Joselyn lifted her gaze. Then, with a hint of mockery in her voice, she asked, Evan, do you really think you deserve an explanation? You used me. You hurt me. You even tried to humiliate me with those videos. And now, you actually think I’d forgive you?”

A sharp pain clenched in Evan’s chest, stealing his breath. His mind spun, a whirlwind of chaos. Her words echoed in his ears, each one cutting deeper than the last

JosiebabeI was wrong. People make mistakes, don’t they? Shouldn’t I get the chance to make things right? Please, don’t do this. Don’t leave me. Don’t go with him. Don’t love him.”

There was a pleading edge to his voice now. His grip on the window tightened as he refused to let go

It’s over between us, Evan. Let me go.”

A loud buzz filled Evan’s mind, like something inside him had just shattered

And in that fleeting moment of distraction, the car suddenly drove away. He stood there, watching the taillights fade into the distance. He felt like his heart had been ripped away from him. Then, in the next second, he bolted forward like a madman, chasing after the car

He’d never imagined he would go this crazy over a woman to the point that he was willing to cast aside all his pride and dignity just to get her back
