Chapter 18
These past few days had been pure agony for Evan.
He spent his nights drinking, his phone clutched tightly in his hand. The screen still displayed that one message that he must have read a thousand times by now.
“Let’s end this, Evan. I don’t love you anymore.”
Every time Evan looked at it, Joselyn’s bright, smiling eyes flashed through his mind. It was like she’d been etched into his memory, impossible to erase.
No matter if he was awake or asleep, all he could think about was her. Her figure, her voice, and even the faint scent she carried wrapped around him like invisible chains, holding him captive.
Evan had never imagined he could end up like this.
He used to be untouchable and ruthless. He was the kind of man who’d do whatever it took to get revenge. And yet now, he was nothing more than a broken, drunken mess, drowning in alcohol and memories.
He didn’t understand why it hurt so much. Joselyn was gone, but her absence felt like it had hollowed him out.
Somewhere deep inside, Evan knew the answer. But he refused to admit it. Or maybe he was just too scared to.
Because acknowledging it meant facing the truth–that the woman he’d once seen as nothing more than a tool had somehow become the person he couldn’t live without.
But right now, he couldn’t hold it in any longer.
Looking at the stunned faces around him, he gritted his teeth and said it again, “I love her! That stupid revenge plan? It backfired. I ended up losing myself instead. Now she’s gone, and I’m the one who can’t breathe!”
His voice rang through the villa, raw with pain and frustration.
Megan watched him from the side. Her eyes suddenly turned red. Watching the man she loved suffer like this felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
The next second, she grabbed a bottle and smashed it against the floor.
“If you love her so damn much, then go after her! Beg her, coax her, and get on your damn knees if you have to. Just bring her back! Sitting here drinking yourself to death won’t do a thing!” Evan froze. For a moment, he looked completely lost. “Do you think I still have a chance? Do you think she’ll ever forgive me?”
Megan’s voice trembled as she asked, “Would you die for her?”
“Yes,” Evan answered without hesitation.
His friends stared at him in shock, stammering as they took in the man who was nothing like the one they used to know.
“H–Holy shit… Evan, are you serious right now?”
Megan let out a bitter laugh and tossed him a plane ticket. “Then go get her. This is the last flight out tonight. Go bring her back. If you don’t, I’ll look down on you.”
Evan’s gaze sharpened in an instant. It was like a bucket of cold water had been dumped over his head. Suddenly, he grabbed a bottle and poured it over himself, letting the icy liquid jolt him back to his senses.
Then, he stood up and said firmly, “I’m going after her.”
His friends immediately jumped in front of him. “Hold up, Evan! You can’t just show up looking like this. You’ll scare the hell out of Joselyn!”
Evan glanced down at himself, taking in the mess of alcohol stains on his clothes. His brows furrowed. “Yeah, you’re right, I can’t see her like this.”
Without another word, he stormed into the bathroom, took a quick shower, and changed into clean clothes.
But when he stood in front of his closet, he hesitated.
ile rummaged through his clothes piece by piece, as if trying to present the best version of himself to Joselyn. In the end, he settled on a sharp black suit. The tailored fit emphasized his lean frame, making him look both commanding and composed.
One of itis friends whistled. “Damn, Evan. You look like you’re about to propose.”
Evan didn’t answer. He just adjusted his cuffs, his expression unusually tense.
Seeing that, no one dared to joke anymore. Instead, someone suggested, “Let us come with you, Evan. Just in case.
Evan nodded. He wasn’t about to turn them down. He knew he wasn’t his best self right now. Having them there might help keep him from doing something reckless.
Before leaving, he turned to Megan with a complicated expression. “Why are you helping me?”
Megan smiled faintly, but her eyes shimmered with unshed tears.
“I told you. I love you. Loving someone means I can accept them loving someone else, as long as they’re happy.” She paused, her voice dropping to a whisper. “When you see her, tell her I’m Sorry, Jealousy blinded me before. That’s why I treated her so badly.”
Evan didn’t say anything. He just gave her a small nod before walking out the door.
On the way to the airport, Joselyn’s face played on an endless loop in his mind.
He’d never imagined that he’d go so crazy over a woman and even be willing to cast aside all his pride and dignity just to win her back.
