Chapter 14
Joselyn’s chest tightened. She was afraid that Jarrett would see through her lie.
Fortunately, he didn’t press the issue. He simply said, “Breaking up was for the best.”
Back home, Joselyn was surprised to find her parents, Charlie Wright and Larissa Atkins, waiting for her.
The moment she stepped inside, Larissa rushed over, her eyes glistening with tears. “Josie, you’re finally home.”
Charlie didn’t say much, but his gaze was filled with warmth and concern.
warmth spread through Joselyn’s heart. She wrapped her arms around Larissa. “I’m home, Mom.”
4 the next few days, Joselyn was enveloped in the overwhelming love of her family. Larissa cooked her favorite meals every day, while Charlie hovered nearby, checking on her at every opportunity.
Every morning, Joselyn woke up to a pile of gifts stacked outside her door.
One day, she mumbled that the gifts were blocking the way and that they might as well just give her a card. The next morning, a ten–million–dollar check was slipped under her door.
When it reached nearly 100 million dollars, Joselyn couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. She went to confront them.
“Dad, Mom, you’re going to spoil me rotten at this rate.”
Larissa shook her head with a smile. “This isn’t our doing. It’s all Jarrett.”
Joselyn turned to Jarrett with a hint of confusion in her eyes.
Jarrett simply smiled and explained gently, “You were gone for so many years. I had nowhere to pour all my love. Now that you’re back, can’t I at least take the opportunity to express it?” Joselyn sighed helplessly. “Jarrett…”
He ruffled her hair. “Alright, you just got back. I just want you to relax and enjoy yourself. Once you’ve had enough rest, I’ll take you to see the dance studio.”
Her eyes lit up. “Really? I can go now?”
Jarrett nodded. “You can. But before that, there’s something else we need to do.”
Joselyn paused. “What is it?”
He looked at her, his gaze deep and unreadable. “Did you forget? I told you I’d introduce you to your fiancé.”
Her face instantly fell. “Jarrett, that’s not an urgent matter.”
Jarrett shook his head and said firmly, “It’s urgent. He’s waiting for you at the dance studio right now.”
Before she could protest, he took her hand and led her outside.
A wave of panic surged through Joselyn. She had no idea what Jarrett was up to. Before she could ask, he’d already shoved her into the car.
As the car slowly made its way to the dance studio, Joselyn thought about the fiancé she was about to meet. For some reason, a sudden wave of nerves washed over her.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Joselyn twisted the hem of her dress between her fingers. Her emotions were a tangled mess.
Jarrett’s words echoed in her mind. “He’s waiting for you at the dance studio right now.”
“Jarrett, can you tell me… what kind of person he is?” Joselyn finally couldn’t hold back. Her voice carried a hint of nervousness.
Jarrett’s grip on the steering wheel remained steady. Smiling, he asked, “Are you nervous?”
Joselyn nodded. “Of course, I am! That’s my fiancé, not some random acquaintance.”
Jarrett glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “He’s a few years older than you. His family runs a business. He’s reliable and easy to get along with. As for whether he’s hot or tall…” He paused, then added with a teasing lilt, “I think he’s decent.”
Joselyn frowned. Something about that description felt oddly familiar. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t put her finger on who it reminded her of.
“Is he… someone I know?” she asked cautiously.
jarrett didn’t answer. He simply smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
