Chapter 12
Evan’s face instantly darkened. When he unlocked his phone, his chest tightened. He waved everyone away.
The group stood there, speechless. “Evan, really? You’re worried about us looking now?”
Evan completely ignored them. His hands trembled as he opened the video folder.
He found the hidden folder, but when he opened it, it was empty. All the videos were gone. Even the trash was empty.
A ringing sound seemed to echo in his head, as if something inside him had just collapsed.
He finally understood why Joselyn had been acting so strangely lately. Why she was so quiet and why her smiles had become so rare.
She’d known all along. That day at the club, she’d overheard everything.
The date she’d circled on her calendar wasn’t just her birthday. It was the day she’d decided to leave for good.
“She knew.” Evan’s voice was hoarse, as if it had to be dragged from his throat. “She’s gone.”
His friends exchanged looks, shock and unease written all over their faces.
One of them whispered, “Shit, now that the videos are gone, the whole plan’s shot. If Jarrett finds out, he’ll kill you! He’s just as crazy as you are!”
Another shook his head. “Not necessarily. Joselyn’s so sweet; she might not tell him. After all, it’s been a while, and she never said anything. She just silently deleted the videos. It’s kind of heartbreaking how well she’s handling it.”
Evan didn’t respond. His gaze was fixed on the phone screen as if he could still see the breakup message. His mind was a blur, and Megan’s words echoed relentlessly in his ears. “You’re pathetic! You’re trying to use her for revenge while you’re in love with her!”
His friends continued talking, but Evan didn’t seem to hear them.
Meanwhile, the guests in the banquet hall had started to murmur. They had no idea what was happening and were left speculating about why the party still hadn’t started.
Evan’s friends had no choice but to disperse the crowd, apologizing to the guests with awkward, helpless smiles.
When they returned, they found Evan suddenly standing up.
He walked slowly to the center of the banquet hall, grabbed a beautiful vase from the table, and smashed it against the floor. The vase shattered into pieces with a loud crash, scattering shards everywhere.
Then, he grabbed a chair and threw it at the wall with all his might. The crash was deafening and left a deep gouge in the wall.
He continued to destroy everything in the banquet hall. His anger grew with each passing moment. The expensive decorations and delicate tableware shattered into countless broken pieces under the force of his rage.
But Evan didn’t stop. He crashed one item after another while his eyes burned with rage. His movements were wild and reckless. It was as if he was trying to destroy everything in the banquet hall.
Finally, his friends snapped out of their daze and rushed to stop him. “Don’t do this, Evan! It’s just a failed revenge plan. It’s not worth all this anger!”
Evan stopped, his eyes bloodshot as he stared at his friends. He spoke slowly, each word heavy with tension, “Who said I’m angry because the plan failed?”
Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Then what’s got you so upset?”
Evan froze for a moment, confusion flickering in his eyes. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. His mind was a whirlwind. He felt like his heart was being crushed, the pain nearly suffocating him.
He grabbed the last thing in sight—the necklace, which was worth over 100 million dollars. He threw it down, smashing it against the ground.
The sound of the diamonds shattering was itke a final proclamation, marking the complete collapse of everything he’d meticulously planned.
The banquet hall was a disaster. Evan’s friends stood in stunned silence, not daring to speak.
Evan stood in the middle of the wreckage. His eyes were empty, as if all his energy had been drained out.
