The One I Lost Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Liam wouldn’t listen and kept waiting in the pouring rain, hoping Stephanie would change her mind. But by midnight, he couldn’t hang on any longer and collapsed

han rushed him to the hospital

After checking him over, the doctor told him to get Liam to Javerton Hospital right away because his wound was infected

Ivan was so freaked out he almost passed out. Shaking, he called the Lowrys to fill them in

At 2:00 am, with a raging fever, Liam was put on a plane back to Javerton. Then, he was wheeled into the operating room before dawn

host an hour into the surgery, the doctor rushed out with some terrible news. The infection’s too bad. With the resources we have here, the only way to save his life is to amputate his right hand. You should get him to Eurenia now if possible. They might be able to save his hand.”

Jean passed out right there when she heard that

but stayed calm. He quickly had someone arrange a flight to Eurenia and made several calls to doctors there

Victor went white but

Liam was flown overseas that afternoon with Victor by his side

Three days later, the medical team managed to save Liam’s right hand after relentless efforts. But he couldn’t move his fingers anymore since the nerves were dead

Basically, his hand was just dead weight now, and the Lowrys definitely didn’t take this as good news

Liam standing in the rain caused a serious infection. After surgery, he stayed unconscious in the ICU

Doctors said that even if he woke up, he’d face a bunch of complications that would need longterm treatment. It would be a long, tough recovery, and indeed, it had turned out just like the doctors had said

Lien woke up three days after surgery, but his body was showing all sorts of problems. Every day, he had to go through endless tests, take different medications, and be watched around the clock.

Days went by, and before they knew it, spring was over, summer was already rolling in

After five long months of listening to the cicadas buzz from his ward, Liam was finally discharged in the fall. He left the hospital and hopped on a plane

home

He stared blankly out the window at the clouds throughout the entire flight. His face was so drawn from months of suffering that he was almost unrecognizable

Liam had gotten used to the constant pain by now. So, being a little healthier again felt strangely unfamiliar to him

When the plane landed in Javerton, his old friends were there to meet him. Everyone looked worried when they saw how weak Liam was. They struggled to think of anything to lift his spirits

No one knew who in the world suddenly started talking about Maeve. Liam, it’s been a couple of weeks since Maeve and Julian tied the knot. They even sent un invites, but don’t worry, none of us went!”

Things got awkward in the car right away

Ivan shot a death glare at that idiot and was about to change the subject when Liam said, Whatever. It’s no big deal that they got married.”

Everyone eased up when they saw Liam wasn’t bothered at all

Ivan figured Liam had put his past behind him after his close call with death, so he said casually, Exactly, people get married when it’s their time. Isn’t Stephanie getting married soon?”

Suddenly, someone’s phone slipped and landed with a thud
