She walked over to me with a bright smile, handing me a glass of champagne as she said, “Mr. Gebb, you truly are a fine gentleman!
“In that custom–made suit, you are simply the epitome of a wealthy scion.”
I couldn’t help but smile self–deprecatingly at her words and shook my head.
“Wealthy scion? Ha! Not at all.”
I could, at most, be considered someone who lived paycheck to paycheck.
How could I possibly be called a wealthy scion?
After all, my assets didn’t even amount to a fraction of what Abigail had. Otherwise, Kayla wouldn’t have died because she couldn’t afford her surgery.
But I couldn’t say any of this to Rebecca. I could only pretend as if everything was fine, sipping champagne as I followed her forward.

With her walking alongside me, many people in the venue who wanted to curry favor with her quickly realized that my status was indeed not ordinary.
They looked at me with cheerful smiles, eager to strike up a conversation.

Before Rebecca could introduce me, one of the wealthy ladies said with a smile, “Oh my, you don’t recognize him? He’s the famous husband of the female CEO, Abigail–Samuel!”
“Oh, so he’s the one… Joshua… no, no, haha, I’m sorry, I must have mixed that up.”
Hearing Joshua’s name, I merely smiled faintly and said indifferently, “It’s alright. After all, my situation has been common knowledge for a while now.”
As soon as I said this, several ladies exchanged disdainful smirks in response.
“Haha, I know him. He almost became Mr. Jigman’s protégé. I wonder how he ended up like this.”
I could only shake my head and sigh. “Everything is a matter of fate.”
I had turned down Hanson’s proposal to study under him, and that was my loss.
The current situation was also something I had brought upon myself. I had no one else to
blame.
However, Rebecca smiled and calmly said to me, “But why have I heard that Mr. Jigman agreed. to come to this auction because he learned that you would be attending?”
