Chapter 82
I looked at her in surprise, not expecting her to open up about her scars.
I listened quietly and learned that Rebecca and her husband had been deeply in love before marriage.
But once they tied the knot, everything changed.
Her husband began staying out all night and talked to her harshly, ordering her around like a
servant.
He even brought women home in front of her.
When she questioned him, he would claim they were just his secretaries from work or business partners,
Rebecca was very angry, but she felt helpless.
She didn’t want to be a parasite depending on her husband, so she planned to start her Own project and run a company, hoping to keep herself busy to avoid thinking about whether her husband was cheating on her.
She had indeed seen rumors about me online and knew she was about to collaborate with
Abigail, which piqued her curiosity to arrange a meeting with me.
I shook my head and let out a bitter smile, feeling helpless.
“Ms. Sims, I know you must have put in a lot for this family. It’s just that others don’t understand it,” I said.
“They take your sacrifices for granted, thinking it’s something you’re obligated to do. You chose to stand behind him, silently supporting him to ensure he has no worries about anything else.
“Little did you know, your paths have gradually drifted apart.”
My words brought tears to Rebecca’s eyes.
She took a deep breath, shook her head, and trembled as she said, “You’re absolutely right!
The way he treats me makes me feel like my sacrifices are utterly insignificant!
“It’s as if I just sit at home doing nothing when, in fact, before marrying him, I was a powerhouse in the business world!”
I smiled and nodded, genuinely wishing her well,
“I believe you will achieve your dreams and become a successful entrepreneur!”
Rebecca was very pleased with my attitude, and after our conversation, she decided to sign a
contract with Abigail this weekend.
As time passed, the room felt stifling, and I stepped out onto the balcony for some fresh air.
To my surprise, I saw a figure I didn’t expect to see when I pushed open the glass door.
It was Blair.
She was leaning against the railing with a glass of red wine, enjoying the night view.
She didn’t look surprised to see me. Instead, she smiled and said to me, “Come on, let’s have a drink together!”
The last incident I had with Blair had been quite unpleasant.
However,
I didn’t expect that she would act as if nothing had happened today, chatting with me cheerfully.
I looked at Blair in surprise and, after some hesitation, walked over to her.
“Are you here for business affairs?”
I asked casually.
Blair glanced at me but didn’t respond to my question. Instead, she frowned slightly and said “That outfit doesn’t look good on you.”
I looked down at my clothes. This suit was a gift from Abigail.
Although it was a high–end tailored suit, I had only worn it once at my wedding ceremony with Abigail.
Since then, it had been sitting unused.
Seeing Abigail coming to me with that attitude, I realized how much she valued this event. Since I had made her a promise, I wanted to do my best and not disappoint her.
That’s why I wore this suit, which hadn’t seen the light of day for years, to attend the cocktail
party.
But I didn’t expect Blair to criticize it.
Her cheeks flushed slightly as she walked up to me with a smile, reaching out to grab my shirt’s collar.
