Chapter 70
Blair’s response left me feeling a little unsettled ter level of concern went far beyond that of a typical friend.
Sophia, who’d been watching from the side, seined equally perplexed, her eyes sharp with irritation and suspicion. Women had a keen sense for these things. She must have felt a strong sense of intimidation around her.
“Thank you for your offer, but this is something need to handle myself,” I said politely, declining Blair’s help.
The issues between Abigail and me were numerous. No matter how things ended, it was something we had to work through on our own. Involving anyone else would only change the
situation’s nature.
“After all, Abigail is still my wife on paper,” I added.
The words seemed to sting Blair. She gave a small, bitter laugh and shook her head. right. Since you two are still married, I’d just be meddling.”

A tense silence followed, each of us lost in thought. The sound of my own heartbeat was almost audible.
The food arrived quickly, but Blair barely touched hers. She excused herself after a few bites, saying she had something else to do, and left.
Sophia stayed quiet for a long while, finally looking up at me with a cautious expression.” Samuel… Don’t you think Blair was acting strange?”
“What do you mean?” I asked without thinking.
She bit her lip, sounding almost jealous. “It just seems like she’s way too interested in you.” I knew what she was getting at. But I didn’t have the time to consider why any woman might be taking an unusual interest in me right now, or what her intentions might be.
I just smiled and shook my head. “It’s probably just because we’re working together. Don’t worry about it.”
Seeing I wasn’t going to say more, Sophia let the matter drop. After we finished eating, she headed home, while I went to the lakeside for a walk to clear my mind.
This lake used to be our spot. Abigail and I would come here often, taking in the view and the breeze after dinner. Back then, I’d been hopeful, looking forward to our future together.
But I hadn’t known that the person by my side had been plotting ways to manipulate and humiliate me. Now, returning to this place felt surreal, like everything had changed.
I sat on a bench and closed my eyes, listening to the quiet, until I heard footsteps approaching.
A moment later, someone sat down beside me.
“I didn’t expect to see you here. I’m surprised,” add a familiar voice,
Opening my eyes, I found Abigail sitting next to me, watching the with an unreadable. expression. The sight of her being so close didn’t bring any joy. When I stood to leave, she grabbed my arm, her voice icy. “Where are you going?”
I looked at her calmly and shook my head. “I dont want to see you.”
Her face turned pale with anger, and she clenched her teeth. “We’re not divorced yet. Did you forget that?”
I gave a cold laugh, laced with irony. “If that’s o, then why are there rumors about you and Joshua?”
“I…” Her face wavered, and she struggled to find words,
I shook my head, laughing bitterly. “Stop lying to yourself, Abigail.”
“For years, you’ve insulted me, and I think you’ve had your fill. Let’s end this–for both of us. We can each move on and live our own lives. Isn’t that better?”
