Chapter 66
“Oh, right! Let me introduce you to someone.” Hanson smiled at me, motioning toward Joshua beside him.
“This is the rising star everyone’s talking about He has landed the lead role in an upcoming drama adapted from a popular novel, and he’ll be singing the show’s OST. He’s planning to study songwriting with me and aims to compose an original song as a gift to his fans.”
Hanson wasn’t interested in the latest rumors floating around online, so he had no idea what I’d been through lately, or that Joshua and I were already acquainted. As I debated whether to tell him the truth, Joshua raised an eyebrow and smirked.
“Mr. Jigman, Samuel and I have known each other for a while.” With a smug grin, he looked right at me and added, “Samuel, I noticed you the moment you walked in. I was waiting for you to say hi, but you ignored me. That hurts.
“Do you dislike me so much? Is there something I did wrong?”
A chorus of sighs and side–eyes from Joshua’s fans immediately followed. They shot me disdainful looks as though I’d done something unforgivable.
I was speechless.
Joshua just wouldn’t let me be, would he?
I’d already decided to divorce Abigail and vowed to stay out of their business, yet here he was, digging into me once more.
Seeing my tense expression, Hanson looked at me with curiosity. “So, you two know each other?”
“Not really,” I replied, shaking my head. “Mr. Jigman, let me treat you to a meal when you’re free. I’ve got some things to handle, so I’ll be heading out. Goodbye.”
With that, I turned and left without a backward glance.
Around Joshua and Abigail, I was always the one walking away. I didn’t want to deal with them and didn’t want to hear any of their insults or passive–aggressive comments. Escapi just easier.
Behind me, I could still faintly hear Joshua’s mocking laughter.
I walked quickly to where Blair was standing and, lowering my voice, said, “Ms. Shepherd, thanks for bringing me along today, but I have to go take care of something.”
She studied me for a moment as if she knew why I was leaving, but she didn’t press me; instead, she gave me a small smile and patted my shoulder. “Alright, I understand. Go on.”
I was grateful that she let me go without making a fuss, so I turned and left immediately.
Chapter 66
When I got back home, I was surprised to find someone waiting by my front door.
It was Sophia. She looked exhausted, sitting on the ground with her knees pulled up to her chest. She must have been waiting for quite a while.
As soon as she saw me, her face lit up with relief. Samuel, you’re finally back!”
“Did you need something?” I asked, looking at her in confusion.
She tried to stand up, but her legs seemed to have fallen asleep, and she stumbled. I rushed over, catching her before she fell.
She looked up at me, her cheeks flushed, and smiled softly. “It’s nothing serious. I just got worried because you hadn’t replied to my messages.”
I chuckled and teased, “Were you afraid you’d find me dead at home with no one to handle the body?“
