Chapter 61
I was stunned by Blair’s straight forwardness. I hadn’t expected her to take up on my casual offer seriously. She even wanted it to be done today.
I couldn’t quite refuse since she had brought it up. I had no choice but to agree.
“Alright, then. Let’s meet in half an hour.”
I quickly made a reservation on my phone and sent Blair the location before heading to the restaurant by cab.
I made my way to the table I had reserved on the first floor when I arrived.
I felt a burning gaze fixed intently on me as soon as I sat down.
The intensity of it sent a chill down my spine. I glanced up uneasily. My breath quickened, and my face paled when my eyes met with Abigail’s.
I had never expected to see her here. It felt as if someone had wrapped their hands around my throat and left me feeling suffocated. I could only stare at her blankly as my heart pounded and my scalp tingled.
I thought I had moved on after a long time without seeing her. Yet, I couldn’t even muster the courage to stand up and walk away the moment I saw her again.
I was frustrated with myself as I inwardly cursed my lack of resolve.
She had long since stopped seeing me as a person of worth. Why would I still feel defeated in her presence?
Next to Abigail was a woman with wavy hair who smirked as she looked at me. She raised her eyebrows and said, “Hey, you look familiar. Aren’t you Abigail’s useless husband? What are you doing here?”
The man next to her snorted and shook his head. “What else could it be? He has shamelessly followed Abigail here and hoped to win her back. How obvious.”
The woman clicked her tongue twice. “Someone is saying one thing and doing another. You’re talking about divorcing Abigail, yet you’re following her all the way here in private. Don’t you have any self–respect? What a shameless fool!”
My expression darkened at their jeers and insults. I was about to get up and leave before Blair walked toward me from afar and sat across me with a smile as she said, “Sorry, I’m late. I was
stuck in terrible traffic.”
She noticed my darkened expression and asked, “What’s wrong? You don’t look too good.”
“It’s nothing.” I shook
my head and decided to ignore Abigail and her obnoxious entourage.
However, it was clear that they weren’t done with me. They called out to Blair with sly smiles, “Aren’t you Ms. Shepherd? What are you doing here with Abigail’s pathetic husband?
“Their divorce may have stirred up a lot of drama, but it hasn’t been finalized yet. You do know that, right? Don’t you think that what you’re doing now is unethical?”
Blair was stunned when she heard their mocking and disdainful tones. She quickly glanced back and followed the direction of the voices until she saw Abigail surrounded by the the center and finally understood why I looked so grim.

Instead of getting angry, she smiled and raised her eyebrows as she glanced at Abigail and said, “Abigail, these people are picking on your husband. Are you going to pretend that you don’t hear it?”
However, Abigail didn’t respond to her question and asked rhetorically in an icy tone, “What does it have to do with you?”
Blair smiled. “It indeed has nothing to do with me. But I’ve never seen someone as shameless as you. You’re hanging out with these people who are mocking and slandering your husband. It’s truly pathetic!”
