Chapter 50
“Have you said these words to Joshua?” I folded my arms and looked at Abigail calmly as I asked rhetorically.
“He’s been trending in the entertainment headlines for days now. Some people call him a resource leech while others brand him a shameless bitchy person or a home–wrecker. Don’t you want to give him a name since you love him so much? Are you willing to scroll through your phone each time only to see your beloved publicly humiliated?”
Joshua had come seeking validation from me not long ago.
They already had a child together. Why did she put on this act in front of me now?
“I’ll explain this to you later.” Abigail moved her lips slightly. A hint of hesitation appeared on her face.
“There’s no need.” I shook my head faintly and looked at her calmly. “You don’t owe me any explanations. Let’s just end things here.”
My heart had gone cold after enduring her endless insults and humiliations.
From now on, whatever she did had nothing to do with me anymore.
“My days are numbered. I’m begging you. Don’t let me leave this world with unfulfilled wishes and a heart full of regrets, please?” I spoke impassively before turning around to leave.
I felt relieved that she didn’t try to catch up this time.
I glanced back through a motorcycle’s rear view mirror on the side of the road.
Abigail stood frozen in place. Her eyes were filled with regret, guilt, and an overwhelming sense of remorse.
I was caught off guard at the sight of her.
It felt strange to me. What was she feeling regretful and guilty about? Wasn’t this what she wanted all along?
She had humiliated me and made me a public laughingstock as well as an object of scorn. I had come so far by enduring every finger pointed at me and every mocking whisper.
And now, she stood there, looking as if she regretted it all. Who exactly was she putting on a show for?
I took a deep breath and quickened my pace to leave.
I had no intention of giving her another chance to entangle me.
After returning to my rented apartment, I focused all my energy on composing melodies and

Blair sent me a message later that night. She invited me to her entertainment company to meet her boss the following day.
She could only continue working with me if the boss decided in my favor.
The assistant had merely recommended me.
I accepted the invitation and went to DreamMedia Group where Blair worked the next day.
I greeted the receptionist politely as I walked in, “Hello, I’m here to see the chairman, Miles Shepherd.”
I was very polite, yet the receptionist looked at me in astonishment and asked in disbelief, You… Aren’t you Samuel Gebb?”
People’s reaction to me had become something I was used to. After all, Abigail had blown matters so out of proportion that our dirty laundry had become public knowledge.
She cleared her throat. “My apologies, Mr. Gebb. Do you have an appointment?” She seemed to realize her attitude had been somewhat abrupt after seeing that I nodded with a smile. Thus, she politely apologized and asked me another question with a more courteous tone.
“Yes, I do.”
“Alright, let me check” She handed me an access card and said with courtesy a moment later,
- “You may take the first elevator on the left. Once you arrive on the 15th floor, go straight to the room at the end. That’s the chairman’s office.”
“Thank you.”
I thanked her and followed her instructions until I arrived at the office entrance. Long–buried memories suddenly surged back and overwhelmed me when I opened the door and caught
sight of the chairman.
I had met him before.
