Chapter 46
I returned to my rented apartment, utterly exhausted, and collapsed onto the bed. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours, and it wasn’t until early morning that I finally drifted into a
restless sleep.
But even in my dreams, Abigail haunted me. She morphed into a vengeful spirit that pounced on me, tormenting me without mercy,
I woke up in a cold sweat, the sound of knocking on the door pulling, me from the nightmare.
The rhythmic knocking was calming, so it couldn’t be Abigail, Abigail had a short temper. If it were her, she would have already knocked down the door and stormed in after knocking for such a long time.
Dragging my weary body out of bed, I opened the door to find Zack standing there. He had a fruit basket in hand, and a selection of nutritional supplements in another. He was smiling
brightly when I met his gaze.
“Tracking you down wasn’t easy,” Zack said.
“Uncle Zack?”
I managed to muster up a smile and politely asked, “What brings you here? Please come in.”
- As Zack stepped into my cramped place, he immediately frowned at the sight of the modest space. There was only a couch, a simple wardrobe, and a table.
“You live in a place like this? Can you manage?”
When we had been abroad together, we stayed in luxurious suites that spanned over 1600 square feet. In his eyes, my current living situation probably resembled a pigsty.
I gestured for Zack to take a seat, then poured him a glass of water.
“I live alone. As long as I have a place to rest, I don’t need much else.”
Zack didn’t comment further on my living conditions. Instead, he handed me a piece of paper. “A celebrity’s assistant contacted me yesterday. He wants you to write a song for one of his artists. Are you interested in taking this task as your comeback project?”
I nodded with a smile and accepted without hesitation. “Of course. Thank you, Uncle Zack”
Zack had been a tremendous help to me during this time.
To me, he was no different than a father. If there was anyone in this world I could trust, it had
to be him.
I gathered my notebook and headed to the artist’s home. For some reason, my hand trembled even before I knocked on the door.

Perhaps it was because I had neglected this line of work for so long. Even now that I was picking it up again, I felt a twinge of anxiety and doubted if I was truly capable.
But just as I raised my hand to knock on the door, it swung open.
To my astonishment, it was Joshua standing there.
“Samuel?” The moment he saw me, he grinned. “Why are you here?”
I was at a loss for words and unsure how to face him. Just then, a voice that sent chills down my spine came from behind him.
Abigail walked up to Joshua with a concerned expression. “Your injury isn’t fully healed yet. I told you that you didn’t need to do this. Just go back and rest. I’ll handle the guest.”
The way they acted was incredibly intimate, as if they were a couple in the throes of young
love.
After pushing Joshua aside, Abigail turned and froze when she saw me standing at the door. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at me, shock flooding her features.
“Samuel? Why are you here?”
I looked up and calmly looked at her. “I’m here for work.”
“Work?”
* Joshua chuckled. “I heard from Blair that she’s hired someone to write a song. I didn’t expect
it to be you, Samuel!”
“What?”
Abigail looked at me in shock as she hesitantly asked, “You mean you’re making a comeback?”
Before I could answer, Joshua chimed in. “I think we should leave, Abigail. We wouldn’t want to… get in the way of whatever Samuel and Blair have going on.”
