Chapter 42

I momentarily froze after hearing Abigail’s name. I never expected her to be here visiting my

sister’s friend

Didn’t she refuse to cover my sister’s hospital expenses previously? My sister had died from her illness, and now Abigail was here, putting on a show. Why was she doing this? Who was she trying to fool

I wanted to avoid any further involvement with Abigail, so I handed the gifts I had bought for Madeline to Paul and asked him to pass them on

Paul looked at me in confusion. Aren’t you going to see Madeline?”

I smiled apologetically and shook my head. I have something to take care of, so I’ll come back and visit her another day.”

But as I turned to leave, I heard Abigail’s anxious voice call out my name

Samuel!”

I didn’t look back and quickened my pace, desperate to escape this place. The more I tried to hurry, the more my uncooperative body trembled. It was impossible to walk away quickly in my state, and I stumbled and nearly fell to the ground

When Abigail saw this, she rushed over and grabbed my arm to steady me. Are you okay, Samuel?”

I silently withdrew my arm from her grip and shook my head calmly. Thanks for your concern, Ms. Bardot. I’m fine.”

Now that I was faced with Abigail again, I didn’t even want to glance in her direction. I turned to leave, but she firmly grasped my thin wrist, her face cold and serious as she commanded, Stop right there! I didn’t allow you to leave!”

Her tone was so forceful and domineering that it drew the attention of other patients and their families passing by

Abigail’s face flushed red as she stepped closer and said in a lowered voice, I need to ask you something. Come with me!”

After saying that, she forcefully dragged me to the stairwell

She always treated me this wayarrogantly, domineeringly, and harshly. It was as if she were my master and I was her servant. No matter what she said, my only option was to comply, and

there was no room for resistance

I looked at her calmly and asked, Go ahead. What did you want to ask me?”

In the quiet stairwell, it was just the two of us. My voice, icy and detached, hit the walls and

echoed in Abigail’s ears

Abigail frowned and glared at me coldly. Then, she demanded, Why do you want to divorce me?”

Why

Her words were absurd. The only reason she had chosen to marry me was to humiliate me. And now, she was asking why I wanted a divorce? Didn’t she realize how ridiculous she sounded

I met her gaze with a frigid stare and countered her question with sarcasm. Do you find it funny to ask that question, Abigail?”

She fell silent, her eyes narrowed as if she was trying to read my thoughts. But just then, she laughed

Her gaze was unwavering, and she shook her head coldly. I’ve told you more than once that I won’t divorce you, Samuel Gebb. If you want to leave my side, there’s only one way. Either you die or I die!”

The more she spoke, the more agitated she became. Her expression was cold and she hissed through gritted teeth, So, you might as well give up on that idea!”

I remained calm and asked flatly, What’s your reason for not wanting to divorce me? Is it just to keep me trapped by your side so you can continue to torment me?”

Before she could respond, I chuckled mockingly. Will your little lover be okay with that?”
