Chapter 40
Abigail was filled with hate. She was resolute in her decision to feel nothing but disdain for me.
But when I emerged from the restroom on my crutches, she couldn’t keep her following me.

It was my first time using crutches, and I hadn’t quite gotten the hang of it yet. So, it was inevitable that I would stumble. My feet refused to keep up, and the next second, I fell hard onto the floor.
The surgery wound that was still fresh tore open with the impact. Blood began to soak through my clothes, and I could smell the sharp, metallic scent filling the air around me.
“Samuel! Be careful!”
Just then, I heard a shout. It sounded far, but also close at the same time. Before I could turn to see who it was, a pair of hands grabbed my shoulders and tried to lift me up.
I slowly raised my head to see Abigail’s apologetic gaze.
“Why are you so careless?”
Her worry took me by surprise. But instead of feeling touched, a wave of disgust washed over me. Before I could shake her hands off, a doctor’s voice from behind us interrupted.
“Are you Mr. Levine’s wife? I need you to come over. There are a few things we need to go over with you.”
“Oh, all right.” Abigail turned to the doctor and nodded, then she instinctively released her hold on me.
Joshua’s wife? Well, wasn’t that rich?
So, she was already flaunting her “new identity” wasn’t she?
She refused to divorce me while publicly admitting she was another man’s wife to humiliate
- me.
Abigail was really something else.
I said nothing as I struggled to push myself up off the floor. Even that small action sapped what little strength I had left. Beads of sweat gathered on my forehead, and I gasped for breath. It felt like half my soul had been drained away.
“Let me help you…” Abigail murmured softly.
However, I coldly yanked my arm away from her
I couldn’t bear to be touched by someone like her

“Why don’t you take care of your precious lover? Don’t waste your time on a dying man like me,” I said in an icy tone, then hobbled away on my crutches.
Abigail froze for a moment, then finally turned and walked toward the doctor.
See? She would still choose her beloved lover over me every time. In that case, why bother pretending to care about me? Was it just to rub it in and make me feel worse?
By the time I made it back to my hospital room, my back was drenched in sweat. I changed into a clean hospital gown and lay down, exhausted. My eyes drifted to the music sheet and song lyrics that I had just finished on my bedside table.
Right then, I made up my mind.
I had let my career slide too long because of Abigail. I thought it would be hard to start over, but maybe my talent hadn’t left me after all.
Since that was the case, why shouldn’t I make the most of the time I had left? I didn’t want to leave behind any regrets.
I sent a message to Zack, letting him know that I had made up my mind.
His reply came fast. He said that he had a big surprise for me in a week. I had no idea what he meant, but I knew one thing.
Right now, he was the only person I could fully trust. Zack was my mother’s closest friend, ⚫ and he would never do anything to hurt me. He had once pulled me back from the edge of the
cliff, and now, he was ready to lift me out of this abyss.
I let out a deep breath and vowed that no matter what, I would find the strength to carry on
