Chapter 38
Abigail was a goddess–like figure in the business world. With her years of experience in the industry, the resources she held were ones that most business leaders could only dream of reaching.
If she ever fell deeply in love with Joshua and willingly poured all her resources into him, he would be unstoppable. He would be a rising star destined for brilliance. If that happened, his future status and influence would rise rapidly.
Joshua couldn’t help but grin, his eyes filled with excitement about the future he envisioned for himself. But as he finished speaking, a sudden realization hit him. He cast a cold, ruthless gaze at Cecilia.
“Cecilia, you’ve been by my side for years. You know everything about me.”
He stood up quickly, blood still steadily dripping from his arm. His expression was dark and menacing as he walked over to her.
The sight made Cecilia’s heart skip a beat, fear and panic flickering in her eyes.
“So, you’d better not even think about betraying me. If you ruin my future, I can’t guarantee that I won’t do something unpredictable if I get pissed off.”
The threat sent a chill down Cecilia’s spine, her face instantly draining of color. She nodded like her life depended on it, not even daring to think of disagreeing with the man before her.
Once he saw how terrified Cecilia was, Joshua smiled in satisfaction and returned to the couch.
- Cecilia clutched her hands to her chest, trying to calm herself. It felt as though she just had a brush with death. She couldn’t understand how Joshua had changed so drastically after meeting Abigail.
When Cecilia had first met Josh, he was ambitious and willing to push himself to improve his acting skills. He would fast for days even for a minor role. Even if it meant that he had to go through the muck, he would do it without a second thought.
As long as he even got a brief chance to appear on screen, he was overjoyed.
But now, with Abigail investing in him, introducing him to new contacts, and helping him find new roles, Joshua seemed to have forgotten why he wanted to be an actor in the first place. And that was to become a genuinely talented star.
Now, Joshua relied on Abigail to feed him opportunities. If he didn’t like the role, he refused it outright. He would only accept significant roles. And even then, he would use his connection to Abigail to act like a diva and bully the newcomers just because he could.
Being a celebrity meant living under constant public scrutiny.

Wasn’t he even a bit worried that he would end up a target if people turned against him? People were already criticizing him for relying on connections and calling him a leech.

Just then, the sound of quick footsteps approached from outside the room. Joshua snapped to attention, tossing his phone aside and collapsing on the couch. He put on an exaggerated display of being weak and even let out the occasional low groan.
The door swung open, and Abigail rushed in. Panic was clear in her eyes as she hurried over to the couch. She was breathing heavily, and sweat trickled down her face as she anxiously asked, “Are you okay, Joshua?”
Abigail’s eyes were filled with worry. She had clearly been rattled by the news of his injury and had rushed here as fast as she could.
Joshua was a master in moments like these.
He put on a pitiful expression, then pointed at his injured arm and shook his head. He sounded as fragile as he could and said, “Just seeing you is enough to make the pain go away, Abigail.”
Abigail gently brushed his hair with a tender look, her gaze shifting down to his wounded arm. But when she saw the bruises and fresh blood, she was shocked.
She shot a furious look at Cecilia and demanded, “What kind of assistant are you, Cecilia?”
