Chapter 27
The cemetery was a place Zack used to bring me often.
He’d told me never to forget my mother and that she had loved me and would have sacrificed anything for me.
I don’t remember what she looked like, nor do I remember much about how she cared for me. But I knew Zack was right.
If there was anyone in this world who had truly cared about me, it had to be her.
Every time I came to visit her grave, it helped ease some of the weight in my heart.
I knelt in front of her headstone, placed the flowers I’d brought, and lit a small candle. Tears rolled down my cheeks, one after another.
I didn’t know how much longer I had left, and I worried that once I was gone, no one would come to visit her anymore. The thought of her being forgotten hurt me deeply.
All I could do was make sure, while I was still alive, to honor her memory, to leave nothing unresolved.
After leaving the cemetery, I hailed a cab to go back home.
But just as I got in the car, my phone rang. It was Joshua.
His voice was surprisingly polite, even filled with genuine concern. “Samuel, I’m at Square Brew in the city center. Could you come to meet me? There’s something I’d like to discuss with
you.‘
I was a bit surprised. Joshua, a popular celebrity, invited me to meet him publicly.
I had no idea what his intentions were.
Still, I followed his directions and made my way to the café.
As I stepped inside, the soft, soothing music wrapped around me, setting a calm atmosphere.
I looked around but didn’t see Joshua anywhere. So, I took a seat by the window and decided to wait for him to arrive.
In the next second, the café’s LED screen lit up and a familiar figure holding a microphone stepped onto the small stage.
I looked closely and saw that it was none other than Joshua.
He started singing a song. It was a song titled “One True Love“.
When he finished, he looked out over the crowd, his gaze soft and filled with emotion as he made a heartfelt declaration.
“The woman I love most in this life is Abigail. She’s like a light in my world, I’m dedicating it to her. I hope everyone here can give us their blessings and wish the woman I love a safe, healthy pregnancy with our child.”
On stage, Joshua looked as happy as a man could be, his face radiating pure joy and dreams for.
the future.
Abigail… was pregnant?
I remembered, back when we first got married, Abigail had told me she was focused on her career and wouldn’t consider having children for at least ten years.
But now… she was having Joshua’s child?
It seemed that she hadn’t been unwilling to have kids. She just hadn’t wanted to have them with me.
Around the café, the audience erupted in surprise, their eyes glued to Joshua as they lifted their phones to snap photos of him.
“Oh my god, isn’t that Joshua, the star who’s been everywhere lately? I thought he looked good on TV, but in real life, he’s just impossibly handsome!”
“Look! Over by the window! That’s Abigail’s husband, Samuel. I can’t believe he’s just sitting there!”
“He looks like he’s half–dead. He’s so pathetic. He can’t even compare to Joshua’s pinky toe!” “They’re flaunting their love in his face, and he still won’t get a divorce? What’s the point of clinging on like this? Doesn’t he have any self–respect? It’s embarrassing for all men.”
The insults and mocking laughter around me grew louder, each word sharper than the last. They all stood there, strangers who knew nothing about my life, condemning me as if they were entitled to judge.
