Chapter 10
‘I stood there and coldly watched Collin’s repulsive performance.
Looking back, every time marriage was mentioned, Collin would use his career as an excuse, saying he would only talk about settling down after achieving success. At that time, I was naive and foolish, thinking that his ambition was a good thing, and I was even admiring him and
hoping for his success.
But now, the truth was crystal clear. His affection came too late, and what he was showing now was anything but genuine. He didn’t love me; he loved the identity, status, and wealth I represented.
I was utterly disappointed in him, and I couldn’t be bothered to say another word. I simply waved over the security and watched them roughly
escort Collin and his flowers out.
He struggled on the ground, trying to get up and calling my name, but I didn’t even look back as I walked into the building.
The next time I heard about Erika, it was because she stabbed Collin. Apparently, the situation was critical, and he was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, the medical attention was timely, and Collin barely survived, but he sustained severe injuries. The knife had struck a vital area, leaving him permanently damaged.
After committing the crime, Erika couldn’t escape justice. She was quickly arrested by the police for attempted murder. However, that wasn’t the end of the story.
As the investigation deepened, it uncovered a shocking case: Erika had killed her biological mother. It turned out that after a drunken slip–up, Mary revealed that Erika wasn’t her biological daughter. She had been switched at the maternity center with a wealthy family’s baby.
In a violent argument, Erika cruelly murdered Mary and hid her body in a cement barrel. Afterward, Erika, desperate to prove her “identity“, worked undercover at the maternity center as a janitor for months. Eventually, she managed to steal the footage from 20 years ago.
But perhaps due to her agitation, she didn’t watch the full footage. She only extracted the part where Mary swapped the babies and rushed to confront the Wales family.
In the end, Erika was sentenced to death for the murder of her biological mother and for severely injuring Collin.
Later, I heard from my husband about Collin’s fate. Unable to accept his condition, he searched for a cure, trying every method. In a desperate attempt, he trusted a dubious remedy. This so–called cure not only failed to heal his wounds but was also poisonous. After taking it, he died from poisoning.
