Chapter 7
As soon as the game started, Aaron won the first round. He drew a card and read it aloud for everyone to hear.
“The winner of the first round gets to pick any woman in the room to take a drinking penalty!”
The group burst into laughter and cheers as the walter brought over the punishment: a massive 27–ounce glass filled with ice and topped off with straight vodka.
“Aaron, you’ve only got two ladies here tonight. Go ahead, pick one, and make her drink!”
Everyone knew Eleanor had just started her period–and with how much Aaron adored her, there was no way he would make her drink something that strong. Naturally, all eyes turned to Alina, who looked visibly anxious and uncomfortable.
But to everyone’s surprise, Aaron hesitated. “Let’s swap out the penalty, alright? I’ll break the rules–pick any car from my garage; it’s yours.”
The offer was tempting, but Aaron’s rare indecisiveness caught the group’s attention even more. A few of his buddies exchanged glances, sensing something was off. No one was willing to let it go–they insisted he make a choice.
With everyone watching, Aaron hesitated for a long while before finally saying the name. “I choose… Nora.”
The room exploded in shock. Everyone’s face shifted from amused to stunned.
Eleanor, pale and sweating from the pain, slowly lifted her head and looked straight at him There was so much in that single glance that Aaron felt like he had just stepped on glass.
He stood up to explain, but before he could say a word, Eleanor took the glass from the waiter with a cold smile, lifted her chin, and brought it to her lips. The icy liquor had barely touched her mouth when suddenly, a hand appeared from the side and snatched the glass away.
The sudden interruption made everyone whip their heads around. No one had noticed when Leon walked in, but he downed the vodka in one long gulp like it was water.
Then, he flipped the empty glass upside down and held it up, smirking as he turned to Aaron. Sorry, I was thirsty. Hope I didn’t ruin your little moment, Mr. Ford. But hey, taking a drink for a beautiful woman… kind of an honor, don’t you think?”
The tension in the room spiked immediately. Everyone knew these two never got along, and their jabs were always razor–sharp. The rest of the partygoers quietly backed off, not daring to take sides.
Aaron’s mood soured even more the moment he saw Leon, and with Leon throwing shade like that, he couldn’t take it anymore–he stepped forward and pulled Eleanor behind him protectively.

“My relationship with Nora is none of your business. After tomorrow, she’s my wife. You’d do well to stay away from her.”
“Tomorrow? Wife?” Leon echoed the words with a soft chuckle, a stratige smile curling on his lips.
No one else understood why he was smiling, but Eleanor did. She turned her head and glanced at the clock on the wall. The hour hand was on 12–it was already past midnight. Her wedding was officially only hours away.
They got home around 2:00 am. Aaron noticed how pale she looked and rushed to explain, ” Nora, Alina’s pregnant–she can’t drink. That’s why I…”
But for all this time, Aaron had never once told Eleanor how he had ended up sleeping with Alina. He hadn’t even mentioned the pregnancy, thinking she didn’t know.
That was why he could still show up in front of Her with Alina at his side, acting like nothing had happened. But the truth always had a way of revealing itself.
Eleanor had long known everything, and still, she played along. She smiled through it all, like she was now–pretending she didn’t know a thing as she asked when Alina got married and who the father was.
Aaron remained silent for a long time. Finally, he shook his head and said, “I don’t know.”
Eleanor let out a small laugh.
That quiet, unreadable laugh made Aaron even more uneasy. His guilt flared, and he quickly tried to change the subject. “Nora, the wedding’s just a few hours away. Let’s get some rest, okay?”
Eleanor looked around the room, her expression shifting with a mix of emotions. “I’m too nervous. I don’t think I can sleep.”
She paused, then said softly, “Since I’m moving out tomorrow, why don’t you help me pack?”
