Chapter21
Jordan’s eyes were still as blue and moist as they were back then.
I took a long time to process what he said before finally speaking, “You misunderstood.”
“Hmm?”
“That was just something I said out of anger. Jordan, I never treated you like a toy. I was
serious about dating you.”
“Why was it something said out of anger?”
“Before graduation, you told your roommates you wouldn’t marry me.”
Now it was Jordan’s turn to be stunned.
He thought about it for a long time, then laughed helplessly.
“What I meant back then was that I wasn’t ready to get married right after graduation. Actually… I started looking at engagement rings a long time ago, but I couldn’t afford one.”
We went through everything that had happened between us.
We realized we had both misunderstood each other.
How did it end up like this?
The root cause was the huge gap in our circumstances.
Jordan thought I was helping him out just for fun.
And I thought Jordan felt obligated to stay with me because he felt guilty.
Neither of us believed the other truly loved us.
Bringing it back to the present.
Jordan asked, “Hannah, why would you rather accept Nicholas‘ help than mine?”

“Because I like you. I don’t want our relationship to become something like that…”
Suddenly, I understood.
Jordan nodded. “Exactly. That’s how I felt back then too.”
“Wait, when I confessed to you, did you already like me too?”
“Yes, Hannah. I liked you even before you confessed.”
