Chapter 77
Willian stepped off the subway, holding the basket of greens in his left hand and Eloise’s hand in the other.
“Let’s go back to our hometown tomorrow to pick up Grandma, Mark, and Felicia. We’ll bring them to Kingsbury,” William said as they walked.
Eloise nodded. Their wedding was only a week away, yet their families hadn’t met each other yet.
“I should also pay my respects to your parents at the cemetery,” William added.
Floise wrapped her arms around William’s and rested her head on his shoulder. She thought about how marrying the right person meant he cared about the things that mattered to her and would be more thoughtful than her in considering important matters
When they returned to their residence, William handed the basket of vegetables to the security guard. Since they would be away for a couple of days, the vegetables wouldn’t stay fresh anyway.
When they got home, William’s stomach was a bit upset, so Eloise made some soup to soothe his discomfort and to help with the effects of drinking. She carried the bowl upstairs while William was in the shower.
There was a sudden loud knocking at the gate. Eloise set the soup on the table and went to the window. She saw Jacob outside.
“Open the door! Eloise, open the door!” Jacob was drunk and pried at the gate, barely able to stand.
Eloise frowned and looked across to the house opposite hers.
The gate opened, and Sophia stepped out in her pajamas. When Sophia saw that Jarob wasn’t at her door but at Eloise’s, her expression soured. She turned around and went back inside, locking the gate behind her.
It was late autumn, and the weather was already turning cold, especially during the night. When Jacon couldn’t get the door to open, he slid to the ground and lay in front of her gate.
“I think I heard locking,” William sand as he wallied out of the bathroom
“It’s Jacob,” Eloise said as she pointed outside.
William walked to the window and glanced out. He said with a cold laugh, “It’s been years, and he still hasn’t broken out of his bad habits.”
Elouse let out a soft chuckle and suddenly seemed to remember something. “Oh right, I haven’t told you about Jacob and me yet. We-”
Willian leaned down and bit her lip before she could finish, and Eloise’s eyes widened in confusion. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a possessive embrace.
“From now on, you can only speak of us. He doesn’t deserve to be mentioned alongside you.” William’s words were a bit childish and full of jealousy,
Eloise tilted her head up and planted a kiss on his chin with a smile. “Do you want to hear about him and me?”
William shook his head and said, “Not at all.”
Eloise looked into his eyes and said seriously, “Then I won’t bring him up again.
William lowered his head to kiss her. “Good.”
The kiss deepened into a lingering one. When William laid Eloise on the bed, she suddenly remembered the soup and quickly pushed him toward it William immediately got out of bed and gulped it down in a few mouthfuls, then pressed her back in with urgency
With their passions ignited, Eloise completely lost herself in it.
In the middle of the night, Eloise woke up feeling thirsty, but her waist was somewhat sore,
“What is it?” William asked.
Eloise groggily murmured that she was thirsty, and in no time, water was brought to her lips. After a few sips, she was more alert and noticed she nestled in William’s arms.
He was pazing at her with eyes full of love.
“Do you still want more to drink?” William asked.
Eloise shook her head, reached out to hook her arms around his neck, and lazily snuggled into his chest. They had never dated before, yet it felt like they had been in love for years. The familiarity, the dependence, the sweetness–sometimes, Eloise felt it couldn’t be real
The next morning, when Eloise got up, William was already downstairs malding breakfast. She took a shower first, then wrapped herself in a towel before she stepped out. Something occurred to her and she walked to the window and opened the curtains. She saw Jacob sitting up outside.
Jacob’s hair was messy, and his clothes were covered in dirt. After spending the night outside in the cold and the morning chill, he shivered and turned to look her way. Their eyes met, and he glared at her awkwardly
All Eloise felt for him was indifference.
Jacob quickly averted his gaze, perhaps unable to stand the way she was looking at him. He got up and hurried back to the house across the way After breakfast, Eloise went to change clothes while William headed to the villa’s entrance to wait for the car, Benjamin would be driving over soon.
