Chapter 29
Lily arrived at dinner. Seeing Eloise in the kitchen preparing dishes, she scoffed and thought that Eloise had finally given in despite being tough.
Some people are just bom to be malds.”
She was speaking Indirectly about Eloise but clearly aimed at Maryanne, Maryanne immediately became upset and ignored her. She went into the kitchen to help.
“Ms. Sullivan, you’re a doctor, highly educated, beautiful, and have a good personality, but… your judgment is just a bit off, Maryanne defended Eloise
Eloise, who was making soup, smiled and said, “used to be blind:”
“Well, technically, when people break up, it’s just over. No one owes anyone anything. But what they’ve done is a bit much. It’s clear they’re bullying you.”
“Yes, but bullying won’t end well.”
After dinner was ready, Lily pulled Sophia downstairs from upstairs, with Jacob following behind them. When they sat down, Lily even pulled Sophia to sit next to her
“Sophia, how’s your appetite today?”
Sophia hesitated, then said, “I threw up twice.”
“Why did you throw up? Was the food not to your liking?”
Sophia didn’t respond, but Lily immediately found the issue.
“Eloise, I’m warning you not to try any tricks. You’d better take good care of my daughter–in–law. If you mess up, I’ll make sure you don’t get a single penny in salary.” She huffed.
Eloise placed a plate of lamb shank on the table and replied, “I don’t need a salary.”
“Listen to that. She does have a motive!” Lily quickly tried to persuade Sophia, “Why did you ask her to be the caretaker here? Aren’t you afraid she’ll take the opportunity to seduce jacob? You’re so naive!”
Sophia quietly said, “I trust Jacob.”
“He’s a cat who steals fish. You trust him?”
“Mom!” Jacob frowned. “Can we just eat?”
Lily deared her throat. “Anyway, I don’t feel comfortable with her in this house.”
Eloise placed the soup on the table. “Why don’t you convince Jacob to tire me?”
“Isn’t it because you’re stubbornly sticking to him?”
“Jacob, have I been sticking to you?” she asked Jacob.
Jacob was already quite irritated. “Eat.”
Lily huffed, then picked up ber fork and first served Sophia some lamb shank,
Having learned from the previous two meals, Sophia didn’t eat right away. Instead, she served Lily a piece of lamb rack.
Lily didn’t think much and just complimented Sophia for being considerate before eating. After confirming she was fine, Sophia finally started eating-
Jacob ignored them and focused on rating his food.
Eloise went back to the kitchen to clean up with Maryanne.
Maryanne was aleout to wash the casserole when she noticed a white powder packet nearby with its seal tom and only a little left. She picked it up and examined it. Ms. Sullivan, what is tids?”
Eloise replied, “It’s rat poison.”
“Rat polson.”
Maryanne quickly looked at the casserole, then seemed to realize something, and her face went pale. “You didn’t put this in the soup, did you?”
Just as she said this, they heard Lily from outside say, “The soup tastes a bit strange, but it’s good for the body. You two should drink more.”
“Don’t drink!” Maryanne nished out in a panic. Seeing them all holding bowls of soup, she shouted, “There’s poison in the soup!”
“Maryanne, what nonsense are you talking about? Lily froward.
“It’s poisonous! Ms. Bullivan put tal podison in the top!”
